В тексте «After the war», который представлен на сайте ФИПИ, используется старая нумерация A22-A28, как вы можете видеть на изображении. При разборе мы заменили ее на новую A32-A38.
A32. Данное задание посвящено словам-связкам в английском. И те, кто следит на нашими публикациями постоянно, тот уже знает, что пунктуация при выполнении подобного задания играет важную роль. Вот почему первым делом смотрим, нет ли запятой после пропуска.
A32 _______ my father and mother considered my grant at Trinity the highlight of the year, I thought Dad’s receiving an award from the Queen was more important.
Ответ:
- however
- moreover
- although
- therefore
В имеющемся предложении ее нет. Это говорит о том, что нужно не вводное слово, а союз.
На заметку: после вводных слов обычно ставится запятая.
Среди предложенных вариантов союз только один — это although. Именно он и является правильным ответом.

А33. Снова задание на фразовый глагол turn out to + инфинитив. Более подробно о нем мы рассказывали в нашем предыдущем разборе (задание А34).

A34. Начнем с того, что посмотрим на слово после пропуска.

Там стоит существительное с определенным артиклем. Значит до него должен стоять предлог.
Проанализируем варианты ответов: while «в то время как» и unless «пока не, если не» – союзы, поэтому исключаем их. Until может быть как союзом, так и предлогом и переводится «до тех пор пока не» и «до» соответственно. During является предлогом и переводится «во время, в течение». Подставим их в предложение с пропуском.

A36. При работе с этой группой глаголов — offered, suggested, proposed, presented — стоит обратить внимание на структуру предложения. Давайте посмотрим.

Структура предложения: had + V3 that I should + инфинитив
Такое построение предложения может быть только после глагола suggest, который будет переводиться «предложить кому-то сделать что-то».

А37. В этом задании предстоит подобрать глагол, поэтому посмотрим на слово после пропуска.

Там стоит his place. С этим существительным сочетаются только два глагола. Это keep one’s place – «знать свое место», take one’s place — «занять чье-то место, прийти кому-то на смену». Подставим оба глагол в предложение с пропуском.
I knew how much he had longed for another son who might eventually A37 _______ his place. — Я знал, как сильно он хотел еще одного сына, который со временем занял бы его место/ знал свое место.
По смыслу подходит take.

А38. Задание на синонимичный ряд say, tell, speak, talk встречается с завидной периодичностью, поэтому стоит знать разницу между этими глаголами.

Так как после пропуска нет дополнения: ни беспредложного, как у tell smb, ни предложного, характерного для speak, talk + to smb, то остается say. Именно он и является правильным.

The Seven Sisters
After the Second World War, officials in the Soviet Union embarked on a building frenzy to add a grand architectural style to Moscow’s skyline. As put by Joseph Stalin, the country’s leader who had led the nation during the war, the Soviet Union was victorious, ___ (A).
The Seven Sisters are a collection of seven buildings that Stalin commissioned to be built between 1947 and 1953. His thinking was to have skyscrapers just like existed in Western cities such as New York and London. It was a matter of prestige for the Soviet nation, he felt, ___ (B).
The idea for the first ever Moscow skyscraper had actually come before the Second World War. The building, the Palace of the Soviets, was never completed. Construction began in 1937, but the German invasion in 1941 halted work ___ (C).
Each of the Seven Sisters has a large base of several floors, with the base size varying from one building to the next. The upper floors are much less wide than the base, ___ (D). The building designs are both elegant and imposing.
The buildings served various purposes, which have not changed since their erection. Some are hotels, such as the Hotel Ukraina, ___ (E). When it opened in 1957, it was the world’s tallest hotel building. Other buildings house government ministries, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Russian Federation.
Strangely, the term ‘Seven Sisters’ is not used by Russians. Rather, they call the buildings ‘Stalinskie Vysotki’, or ‘Stalin’s skyscrapers’. The style was replicated in former USSR and Eastern Bloc countries ___ (F), places that were influenced by Stalinist architecture.
