Culture of the world егэ

«For the first time this issue, which is now called The World Ahead, will be published in Ukrainian. In it, we and our British colleagues gathered leaders of states and big companies to discuss what the global economy, the world of culture and technology will be like next year. Among them there is also the President of Ukraine, whose column will open the Ukrainian part of the project,» said Vitaliy Sych, editor-in-chief of NV magazine, who presented the special project on December 16.

Experts expressed their forecasts in different spheres – healthcare, science, tourism and culture. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky wrote that the year 2022 will be decisive for Ukraine. The head of state is convinced that the fate of the country depends on the success of reforms and vaccination against COVID-19.

«Societies that remain behind in vaccination will also remain behind in economic development,» the RBC-Ukraine news agency, whose journalists reviewed the full version of the issue, quoted Zelensky as saying.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor considers it a priority to hold off another Russian invasion.

«The Ukrainian people are more united than ever in the fight against Russia,» Taylor said.

The agency notes that much attention was paid by the speakers to technology and innovation.

«The Ukrainian IT sector has huge potential for development. Ukraine can become the biggest IT hub in Eastern Europe where products that will change the world will be created,» said Mikhail Fedorov, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Digital Transformation.

Darnitsa Group Chairman of the Board Dmytro Symkiv is convinced that Ukraine will finally have a chance to stop relying on fertile soil thanks to its trained workforce, world-class projects, leading financial services, and the gradual digitalization of industry along with healthy workaholism. «Darnitsa has been a major partner in the special project for all of its years.»

«Fueled by innovation, the efficiency of traditional industries grows. I recall the pharmaceutical industry, which is close to me, fighting for the right to supply inexpensive drugs to the European Union. Moreover, Ukraine is ready to create an anticoronavirus hub, which in the future will be able to provide the entire region with vaccines and drugs against COVID-19,» Shymkiv wrote.

In the British part of the special project, the experts also paid a lot of attention to COVID-19 and the global energy crisis, the confrontation between the United States and China, the political situation in the United States and its impact on the world, listed RBC-Ukraine.

«This country will remain a big state for many years to come, but how influential it will be depends not on its foreign policy, but on its ability to solve its own internal problems,» said Francis Fukuyama, a well-known American philosopher, political economist and publicist, as well as a senior fellow at Stanford University.

Today the
life of many young people in Russia as well as in other countries of the world
is influenced by popular culture. The young follow certain stereotypes that are
imposed on them through TV, movies, and music. In their lifestyle, they try to
imitate the images of their idols. Other young people are sports and music
fans. They follow their idols in their tours and support them. Unfortunately
they are intolerant to those who don’t share their view. It’s a specific aspect
of the youth subculture that can’t be ignored.

I think
that subculture is the culture of those who are dissatisfied with their place
in society. Different subcultures have their own beliefs, value systems, fashion,
and favourite music.

There are
other subcultures that are not connected with music, and have a specific
ideology. For example skinheads, which wore heavy boots, jeans and braces and
shave their hair or cut it very short. Skinheads dreamed about the revival of
the traditional working class culture. Skinheads were identified with extreme
right wing views. Among other subcultures are Hippies, Punks, Mods, Rockers,
Ravers and many others. Generally, they were young people with low
self-respect, who did poorly at school. They opposed the traditional world in
which they were settled as fiasco elements.

Subcultures
are not that bad as they are thought to be. Teens want to show off. However, at
the same time a lot of teens think about changing the world to the best.
Subcultures are for mostly for young and creative. Then, I am sure, teenagers
become good citizens. Some who were punks became the main editors of famous
newspapers. A subculture is a way of life. It is not a fan club, it is an
attributive feature of a real life.

The culture shock of being an international student

For any student, moving away from home can be a bit scary. But I did not expect student life in Scotland to be all that different from my home of the Netherlands. After all, we get the same news and TV shows online. Many students find the northwest climate can affect them a lot. You may find the grayness and dampness, especially during the winter months, difficult to get used to. However, when I moved from Amsterdam to study at the University of Stirling, I began to realise that a few minor issues were catching me off balance. I was suffering a minor cultural shock.
In my first year, I quickly found out my English was not as good as I had assumed. Most of my roommates were born and raised in Scotland, and I constantly found myself having to ask people to repeat themselves. Their Scottish accents did not help and I was mispronouncing names and places all the time. I also got confused about minor cultural things. Much to my flatmates’ amusement, it took me two Christmases to figure out that mince pies are not actually filled with minced beef.
The linguistic barrier meant that public transport was tricky at first. I found the lack of information about bus prices and how and where to get tickets really surprising. It turned a simple 15-minute journey into a daunting task.
Then I had to adjust to a new social life. I was surprised by the campus culture in the UK – in the Netherlands, most universities don’t have one main campus where you can attend university, as well as live and exercise all in the same place. But here, you never have to leave campus if you don’t want to. I had to adapt to everyone being so close to each other all the time.
Parties are different here too. In the Netherlands, the less effort you put into getting ready, the better. I’d normally slip on my trusty Converse shoes, along with some clothes I could get away with wearing to class tomorrow, and wear minimal make-up. But, in my experience, partying is more formal in the UK. Your make-up needs to be flawless and your hair needs to be immaculate. You’ll preferably be wearing a dress and heels, too. I was constantly having to borrow clothes off my friends just to fit in. Parties finish early and everyone just wanders off, whereas in my country that would be the time I’d leave the house.
But it is not all early closing times and strange pastries. Social behaviours may also confuse, surprise or offend you. For example, you may find people appear cold, distant or always in a hurry. Cultures are built on deeply-embedded sets of values, norms, assumptions and beliefs. It can be surprising and sometimes distressing to find that people do not share some of your most deeply held ideas, as most of us take our core values and beliefs for granted and assume they are universally held.
However, I have found lots of pleasant surprises in the UK too – and so have many other international students I know. My friend Agnes was taken aback by how sociable people are. She says she was shocked when complete strangers started talking to her at the bus stop. I, personally, was surprised by how smartly male students in Stirling dress compared to my home country.
Culture shock can knock your confidence in the beginning. But you are not alone in taking time to adapt, and soon you start to come to grips with all experiences. Studies suggest that taking a gap year or studying abroad can positively influence your brain to make you more outgoing and open to new ideas. Looking back, most of the ones I experienced made good stories to tell my friends.

1) Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.

The first maps were drawn by explorers to help them find their way home and show people where they had been. The maps showed the shape of the land, distances between places and special features such as caves and old trees. Nowadays, maps show the towns and villages, and the roads, railways, rivers and mountains. Symbols are used to show all the different things on a map and there is a key to explain what the symbols stand for.

Over the centuries, people explored most of the Earth and put together the map of the world we use today. Maps of the world or large areas are often either “political” or “physical”. The political map shows territorial borders. The purpose of the physical map is to show features of geography such as mountains, soil type or land use including roads, railroads and buildings.

2) Study the advertisement.

You are considering buying the book and now you’d like to get more information. In 1.5 minutes you are to ask four direct questions to find out about the following:

1) if it’s a paperback edition
2) number of illustrations
3) vegetarian dishes
4) the price

You have 20 seconds to ask each question.

3) You are going to give an interview. You have to answer five questions. Give full answers to the questions (2–3 sentences). Remember that you have 40 seconds to answer each question.

The first human carrying flight technology was the hot air balloon. While unmanned balloons have been around in some form for thousands of years, the first flight with people aboard was in 1782. The large balloon on top is called an “envelope”. It holds hot air created by a heat source known a burner. The burner creates an open flame by burning a mix of propane and air. Hot air balloons are capable of floating because the hot air inside the envelope has a lower density than the colder air outside. The top of the balloon usually has a vent which allows the pilot to control the speed of ascent or descent. Passengers typically stand in a basket beneath the envelope. While most envelopes have a standard balloon shape, others are designed to look like animals, cartoon characters and other fun objects.

Many lands that had once been swamps were drained or filled in. There are different reasons why people drained swamplands. Some were drained to fight diseases caused by insects that lived in them. Because swamps were considered unpleasant places in which to live and harmful to health, many people thought that unless they were drained the land was worthless.

Other swamps were drained to make new land. As the population grew and more land was needed, people drained swamps or filled them to make room for more farms and factories, more roads and airports.

Few people thought that it might be harmful to get rid of swamps. As swamps disappeared, other things happened. There were both more floods and more droughts than before. There were also more fires, for swamps had acted as firebreaks. Hunters noticed that there was less wild game. Wild life that once lived in the swamps was dying out, because it had no place to live.

People have always told stories and legends to explain natural, but mysterious, occurrences such as the Northern Lights. The Vikings believed the Northern Lights were caused by the shining weapons of warriors. The Alaskan people thought the lights were the souls of salmon, deer and other animals. The Indians told the stories of giants living in the North and thought the lights were their torches.

The Northern Lights are actually caused by electrons from solar winds. They are attracted to the poles by the magnetic fields found there. They mix with gases in the atmosphere, which causes the gases to glow. The Northern Lights are most visible in the far north. They are typically green, purple, red or blue.

Japan is an island nation in East Asia, located in the North Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Asian continent. Japan comprises the four main islands in addition to numerous smaller islands. Tokyo is the country’s capital and largest city. Mountains dominate Japan’s landscape, covering 75 to 80 per cent of the country. Historically, the mountains were barriers to transportation, limiting the economic development of isolated areas. However, with the development of tunnels, bridges, and air transportation in the modern era, the mountains are no longer an obstacle. The Japanese have long celebrated the beauty of their mountains in art and literature, and today many mountain areas are preserved in national parks. Most of Japan’s people live on plains and lowlands found mainly along the lower courses of the country’s major rivers, on the lowest slopes of mountain ranges, and along the sea coast. This concentration of people makes Japan one of the world’s most crowded countries.

Since ancient times, humans have loved and cherished cats as their pets. Today more than 80 million cats reside in US homes, with an estimated three cats for every dog on the planet. Yet there is still a lot we don’t know about our feline friends – including what they think of their owners. After observing pet cats for several years, scientists have come to an intriguing conclusion: cats don’t really understand people the way dogs do. They tend to feel it is they who own their masters, not vice versa. On the contrary, dogs perceive people as being very different from themselves. As soon as they see a human, they change their behaviour. The way a dog plays with a human is completely different from the way it plays with a dog. Cats are independent creatures and they can easily change their owner without changing their habits.
