Пояснение.
38.1 Nowadays a lot of teenagers spend their free time reading books particularly there is a variety of book genres. The aim of the project I am currently working on is to find out what book genres are popular among teenagers in Zetland. As part of my project, I have found and analyzed some relevant data presented in the table.
According to the data, the teenagers in Zetland have quite a wide range of tastes when it comes to book genres. It is clear, that the vast majority of the respondents enjoy reading adventure novels as well as detective stories (55.4% and 55.3% respectively). Sports stories are also quite popular with the teenage readers (49.2%), whereas romantic novels appear to be at the bottom of the table.
It is worth mentioning that animal stories are two times less preferable than adventure novels. To my mind, books about animals are written mostly for little children, not for teenage readers.
Statistics reveal one problem connected with reading. Obviously, there are no classical books in the table. Thus, teenagers in Zetland prefer reading books for relaxation than broadening their horizons. One solution to this problem is to organize discussing clubs for the adolescents there they can meet professors and theater actors, read together and read serious books. Live communication encourages better than boring lessons.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that reading is significant for teenagers. I hope the adolescents will be able to learn more reading different book genres. (245 words)
38.2 Many people believe that smartphones have become an essential part of modern life. The aim of the project I am working on is to find out what people use their smartphones for in Zetland. As part of my project, I have found and analyzed some relevant data presented in the diagram.
According to the data, there is quite a wide range of reasons when it comes to using smartphones. It is clear, that the vast majority of the respondents enjoy emailing as well as making phone calls (79% and 78% respectively). Surfing the internet is also quite popular with the smartphone users (58%), whereas paying for purchases appears to be at the bottom of the table.
It is worth mentioning that smartphones are used for playing computer games less often than for emailing. To my mind, it is comfortable to be in touch everywhere when it comes to business. At the same time, gaming is the most popular pastimes among teenagers.
One problem that people often face using smartphones is the poor quality of signal in some areas. It is very crucial nowadays due to the internet is necessary for using all options that modern devices provide. One solution to this problem is to create free Wi-Fi zones in public places, such as libraries, railway stations, parks where people can spend their time effectively and gain access to the internet for free.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that smartphones play a significant role in our life. They make our daily life easier but people should use them wisely.

Some
people think that reading detectives is a waste of time.
In today`s
world there are many different kinds of books and all
people can
find something suitable among the variety. However,
some think
that detectives are a useless and stupid genre of books,
whereas
others believe that there is no better way to spend time than
reading
detectives. So where is the truth?
In my
opinion, reading crime stories brings any person many benefits
and
advantages. Firstly, detectives usually have cunningly devised
motives of
a crime and an investigation process. This characteristic
of the book
allows readers to develop logic, observation and
understanding
of human behavior, which can be very useful in real
life.
Secondly, it is the best way to deal with depression because the
world of
the book is able to capture and divert from real issues. As is
known, a
person a little distracted from any problem later find a
solution
quicker because of looking at the situation more objectively.
Moreover,
we should take into account that reading books enriches
the lexicon
and develops grammar skills.
Nevertheless,
many people share the opinion that reading detectives
is
worthless activity. Nowadays this genre is made from a template,
so that
every book is of the same plot.
This may be
true to some extent, but I assume that detectives of
different
authors are varied. They have their own inner world and
fantasy, so
plots of some books can be similar but it does not make
crime
stories less interesting.
In
conclusion, I am firmly convinced that detectives are beneficial
books
because of their ability to give food for thought, distract from
reality and
develop logical thinking. I maintain that this genre cannot
be called
`useless`.
As you can see in “My favourite books” section of this blog, the first book in the list is “And then there were none”, it’s a detective story and one of the best sellers of Agatha Christie. I thought first to write a review for this novel, but I decided not to do because what matters in this kind of novels is suspense, so a review wouldn’t be interesting for you, because if you decide to read the novel, it will be like watching a movie for the second time! Maybe a short summary later will be enough just to give you an idea about the book.
It’s true that many people believe that reading this kind of books isn’t really useful, and more than that, they consider it as a waste of time, but personally, I think it has many positive sides:
1. Developing our imagination
While reading a detective story, instead of waiting for the truth to be revealed at the end, the reader can take the place of the detective, start thinking like him and try to find out the guilty. It’s very funny and very useful because it makes our little grey cells work!!!
* Little grey cells: the famous sentence of Hercule Poirot, a fictional Belgian detective created by Agatha Christie.
2. Changing the mood
When we are used to reading serious books such as politics, history, NLP and Economy books, we can feel at one point that we need to relax, so why not to read something light and enjoyable? It’s better than stopping reading, because at least it will help us keep up our pace.
In my opinion, a detective story is the best choice we can make, because it’s very easy to read and doesn’t require a big effort. Even when we try to play the detective role, it remains very amusing!
3. Picking up new information
Sir Conan Doyle, the writer of the famous “Sherlock Holmes” was a Physician. Agatha Christie worked as a nurse during the First World War, and married an archaeologist. Those writers used their life experience and their knowledge in their stories, so the details they gave in their cases are real, and we can learn a lot from them.
For example, those novels can contain medical information such us poisons effects and symptoms of different illnesses, or information about archaeology, such as customs and traditions of ancient cultures or some events related to historical monuments or artefacts.
Furthermore, in some of their stories, crime writers provide an overview of the political, economical and historical environment where their characters live, this information is also inspired from reality, so I think it’s very interesting to know.
4. Discovering Human nature
The writers of detective stories give a big importance to the psychology of their characters. As we know all, the human nature is very complicated, and it’s very normal to find a villain and an innocent side inside each of us, but it’s the way we deal with them that determine our actions.
In those novels, we learn not to trust appearances and not to judge people until we live with them and know them more closely.
Another little detail I’ve learned from Hercule Poirot is that people tend to talk about their problems, their thoughts and their pasts with strangers because they have no interests in common, so they won’t judge them or criticize them or use this information against them one day. This is how Hercule Poirot solves his cases; he knows how to talk to people and make them trust him.
5. Learning Languages
Most of detective stories look like pieces of theatre, since they contain especially dialogue, and this dialogue is often written in familiar language.
So, for people who want to learn more practical English or French and acquire new expressions, it’s a good idea to read this kind of books.
In the end, I hope that I’ve succeded in changing your vision about detective stories, and I look forward to reading your interventions.
Have a good week end all!
Amal.

Agatha Christie’s secret life as an archaeologist
She is one of the best-known crime writers of all time, but few know the extent of Agatha Christie’s archaeological pedigree. What can we discover if we dig into her past?
Married in 1930 to Max Mallowan, an eminent archaeologist, Christie spent two decades living on excavation sites in the Middle East, writing her crimenovels and helping out with her husband’s work. Travel by boat and on the Orient Express to Cairo, Damascus and Baghdad provided ideas for some of Christie’s best-known works of detective fiction, including “Murder on the Orient Express”, “Death on the Nile”, and “Murder in Mesopotamia”.
Now, 3,000-year-old ivory artifacts recovered by Mallowan between 1949 and 1963 from the ancient city of Nimrud, in what is now Iraq, and likely cleaned by his famous wife using cotton wool buds and face cream, are currently on display at the British Museum in London. “Face cream in fact is quite a good thing to clean (artifacts) with. Obviously conservators now wouldn’t use that, but I don’t think it has done (the pieces) any harm,” he claimed, adding that in fact it was quite resourceful of Christie to think of applying her Innoxa face cream to the fragile, dirty pieces. “Agatha, who was very conscious of being fifteen years older than her husband, travelled everywhere with her moisturiser and it was just the right consistency for cleaning artifacts,” said Henrietta McCall, the author of “The Life of Max Mallowan: Archaeology and Agatha Christie.”
Christie’s interest in archaeology, according to McCall, went deeper than support for her husband’s work and even formed the backdrop to works such as “Murder in Mesopotamia”, in which the culprit turns out to be an archaeologist. Several of the characters in the book can be traced to the people Christie knew from a dig in Ur in what is modern Iraq, including the murder victim, which McCall believes is based on the wife of archaeologist Leonard Woolley. “She made a wonderful quote on archaeology and crime detection, that they are very similar because you have to clear away the debris to reveal the shining truth,” said McCall. And Christie’s elaborate plotting and clue building came in handy when piecing together broken artifacts.
According to the archaeologist Charlotte Trumpler, “Christie was of course fascinated by puzzles, using little archaeological fragments, and she had a gift for piecing them together very patiently.” Trumpler co-curated a 2001-2 travelling exhibition “Agatha Christie and Archaeology: Mystery in Mesopotamia” alongside Henrietta McCall.
Although Christie played an important role in her husband’s work, even financing many of his expeditions, she was, according to McCall, very modest about her contributions. She was fiercely proud of Mallowan, who is often referred to as one of the best-known archaeologists of the post-WWII period. However, Trumpler believes that though Christie never publically mentioned it, her contribution to archaeology was larger than she imagined. Her notes and black and white photographs of excavation sites are used by archaeologists and researchers even today, she said.
Christie’s readiness to muck in and help her husband, says Trumpler, stemmed from her desire to be a devoted wife but also from a fascination with the Middle East that stayed with her for many years. “Everyone thinks Agatha Christie was a bit like the character Miss Marple, that she lived in England and was into knitting and looking after the garden,” said Trumpler. “Actually, she wasn’t … she had such a fascinating life apart from being an author.”

Teenagers= 13-19 year olds= teenage boys and girls= teenage readers*
Respondents // Those surveyed // Book lovers
It’s no secret that different age groups have different reading preferences. This project I am working on is aimed at establishing what book genres are popular among 13-19 year olds in Zetland. I have found some data on this issue and organized it in a table. In this essay I am going to analyse my findings.
Para 2
Пишем о первых двух показателях и о последнем.
55 percent of teenagers= more than half of teenagers=the majority of teenagers
As can be seen from the table, the majority of the respondents cited adventure stories as their preferred book genre, making this kind of books most popular with Zetland’s teenagers. Adventure fiction is very closely followed by detective, war and spy stories, which are also liked by more than half of teenage readers. Another key feature is that less than a fifth of the surveyed teenagers reported enjoying reading romances, putting this genre at the bottom of the table.
Para 3
Сравниваем 3й показатель с ранее данными показателями. Сравниваем 4й показатель.
The table also shows that sports stories, enjoyed by 49 percent of teenage boys and girls, are just slightly less popular than the first two most read genres. By contrast, animal stories with 27 percent are only half as popular as the two reading genres.
Para 4
Фраза-связка, проблема, решение.
While many teenagers cannot imagine their lives without books, there is an important problem associated with reading. It is known that prolonged reading can lead to eye strain and headaches. Fortunately, book lovers can effectively deal with this issue by taking regular breaks from reading and giving their eyes some rest.
Заключение
Фраза-связка, мое мнение.
In conclusion, although avid young readers can face some problems, I am convinced that reading is of crucial importance for every teenager.
