Prepare for the exam in English in a month

егэ по английскому как подготовиться

Now, at the end of spring, these Internet resources have a chance to break all popularity records. We are talking about services that help graduates prepare for the imminent delivery of the Unified State Exam. In addition to the main subjects, English is of particular interest this year. Will anyone, using these resources, be able to prepare for it in the remaining month?

  • Knowledge test time
  • How to learn to listen and speak

Knowledge test time

No need to create illusions. Learning English from scratch on Skype is almost impossible fantasy. But there is still time for intensive preparation, which will help to improve the level of knowledge.

Of course, if a graduate chose this exam, he most likely understands what he is going to do. Before that, there were months of preparation — at school level or even in courses. And now is the time to systematize knowledge and test yourself.

The easiest and most convenient way is to use test items similar to those that will be on the exam. Of course, this is not necessary in order to memorize the answers. By solving tests, you can understand how the exam questions are formulated. This will help you quickly navigate the exam. And the main thing is to identify your weak points.

A simple test. Are all the words in the picture clear? If so, you can safely proceed to a more difficult stage.

So, the first Internet resource designed to help in preparation is Yandex.EGE. It was created specifically to test knowledge and familiarize yourself with the format of questions for the Unified Exam. It presents demo versions of the USE and GIA tests. All of them were developed by experts in full compliance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Service «English» has two parts: «Reading» and «Grammar and vocabulary». Reading contains two types of questions. The first type is the so-called matching. For example, the first question contains small texts and headings.

You need to understand which heading refers to which text. In the second question, you should place the proposed fragments of phrases in the text. Seven more tasks require you to read the text, and then answer a question about it.

The correct answer is chosen from four suggested ones.

In these tasks it is useful to be able to quickly «grasp» the main ideas of the text. You should not be too scrupulous to parse sentences, trying to translate them completely. Experience shows that it is enough to understand about 20% of words to get an idea of the content of the text. It is important to grasp the context, understand, remember the meaning of what you read.

For the section «Grammar and Vocabulary» theory is useful. In 13 tasks it is necessary to put the word in the desired grammatical form. Another seven offer texts with missing words in sentences. It is necessary to choose from four options a word that is suitable in meaning.

You can think about the answers as much as you like. This is not an exam yet, time is not limited. You can skip any incomprehensible task, or go straight to the answers. But nevertheless, it is better to first try to master as many questions as possible on your own. Then the test result will be an objective assessment of the current level of training.

After the end of the test, a list of all the passed questions with the results and correct solutions is given. Having analyzed them, you need to determine for yourself what needs to be repeated or reworked. Sometimes the error can be caused by a misunderstanding of the question. In this case, you need to try to understand the logic of the task.

You can train using this service not only at the computer. There is a mobile application Yandex.EGE for Android. It does not require an Internet connection to work. So with a smartphone or tablet, you can prepare anytime, anywhere.

To try your hand right now, just click on the picture below.

How to learn to listen and speak

The above service can help you prepare for the two sections of the exam. Those related to reading skills and knowledge of theory. But there are still two important areas — «Listening» and «Speaking».

To complete the listening tasks, you need to be able to comprehend English speech by ear. Unfortunately, the school curriculum often develops this skill rather poorly. Watching movies in English, listening to audiobooks or teaching discs can help in part.

But the best thing is to study with a teacher who can provide full communication. It is very important to devote at least a little time every day to listening exercises. An important point is that you should not try to translate every phrase you hear in your mind.

The same rule applies here as when reading — you need to perceive not the words, but the meaning.

One of the most significant innovations this year is the addition of an oral part to the English exam. It has not yet been made mandatory. But those who dare to take the «Talking» can earn an additional 20 points.

You can only get 80 for the written part. So 100 points is a result only for those who complete both parts. But the main difficulty is that you will not have to answer in front of the examiner, but in front of the computer.

The answer will be written down, and then the examination committee will consider it.

How to prepare for the «spoken» sections of the exam? The quickest and easiest way is with the help of a good tutor. Even for those who attend the courses, it makes sense to conduct several classes with him. After all, individual communication with a teacher can improve language proficiency in the shortest possible time. And a tutor will help a weak student to quickly reach a sufficient level.

Finding the right tutor is not easy. Usually, when searching for it, they rely on three criteria: money, time, result. A teacher with a sufficiently high qualification usually asks for a large payment for his services. And learning from an inexperienced tutor for a nominal fee may not be particularly effective. In addition, there is a chance to find a good teacher, but far away. And then waste a lot of time getting to him.

All these problems are gracefully solved by the Internet. Namely — which has become popular recently English language training via Skype.

It is convenient to use the Preply platform to select a tutor. The official website of Preply.com has a huge database of teachers of various languages. Of these, there are about 2700 tutors for learning English via Skype. You can choose the right teacher by reviewing the information provided in his profile. For example, for novice students, teachers who specialize in working with schoolchildren are suitable. And for the more «advanced», communication with native speakers may be useful.

When choosing, you can also rely on the price of classes, choosing the most appropriate option. That being said, do not assume that a lower price means less training. The cost of the lessons can depend on many factors. But in any case, the lesson will be of high quality and comfortable.

This approach has many advantages:

  • You can quickly find a suitable tutor by specifying the required parameters. For example, the desired cost of education, the level of the student, his age.
  • The popularity and success of a tutor can be understood by his rating on the site.
  • The teacher can contact the student at any time without wasting time on the road. The teacher and the student can even live in different cities or countries.
  • Cost savings. First, there is no need to spend money on the road. Secondly, the cost of lessons with teachers from small towns is often less than with tutors from large ones.
  • Studying with a tutor via Skype, a graduate acquires the skill of communicating with a computer. This will come in handy for the exam. Listening is done through speakers or headphones, and «Speaking» is recorded on a microphone.
  • The Preply platform guarantees the quality of services and payment reliability. If the tutor did not fit the student or the lesson did not take place, the money will be refunded. Or the next lesson with a different tutor will be free.

Today’s Internet technologies provide a more flexible learning format. They provide the student with the choice of teacher, as well as the time and place of classes. And regular tests of knowledge on special resources will help you pass the exam in a trial form. This will help to identify knowledge gaps, which will provide an opportunity to prepare at a better level.

Information about companies:

Preply.com is a marketplace for the selection of online and local language tutors. Since 2013, the company has been providing services in the markets of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Poland. For 2015, Preply.com plans to enter new markets — Germany and Brazil.

Yandex. The Unified State Exam is a special service created to provide access to exam tickets for the Unified State Examination and State Examination in such disciplines as mathematics, Russian, foreign languages, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, computer science, history, literature and social studies.

exam in English how to teach | English secrets

егэ по английскому как подготовиться

Hello dear teachers and tutors!

They often come to me by mail through the CONTACTS form, many letters, where readers ask to help them or tell them what interests them. Recently, there have been similar inquiries related to the preparation for the exam.

In order not to answer everyone in the letter, I decided to combine all the questions into one article and analyze everything in detail. I will write what I personally think about this and of course I do not pretend to be correct, I will simply state my thoughts, how I would have done.

So, where to start preparing for the exam if you’ve never done it before? What do you need to have for yourself and your students first?

to prepare students for the exam?

Usually, teachers who study mainly with little ones are afraid to start preparing students for the Unified State Exam in English for two reasons:

  1. Language training is weak

Agree that teaching children, you do not need to master a large number of vocabulary, and the grammar is studied there basic. Everything goes on an elementary level, both grammar and vocabulary.

I do not argue that some of the teachers speak the language well and are constantly developing, but in many cases for many there is no need. And this, by the way, is sad!

     2. Never in my life prepared for exams (GIA and USE) and did not take it themselves

So it’s time to start! If you follow the fact that English is gaining more and more popularity and there is a tendency that soon it will be mandatory for many, then you just need to learn how to prepare students for these exams.

If only because if you work as a tutor, you will be competitive and one step higher than those who do not prepare for them.

Courses, tutor or self-taught?

If suddenly you are firmly decided that you want to prepare children for the exam, you must, first of all, be well versed in this exam yourself! To do this, you have a choice:

  • enroll in courses to prepare for the Unified State Exam in English in your city, if any. If not, then go remotely. Unfortunately, the courses that I took are now gone. And it was already on the site for a long time on September 1 here
  • find a tutor who can teach you the intricacies of the exam and will tell and show you step by step what and how. Perfect option! But there are very few of them and they are hiding))). I am not hiding and you can turn to me for advice.
  • do self-education and read, read, read a lot! And then implement all this, practice and draw conclusions! One of the most affordable options, but it requires a lot of self-organization and self-discipline from you!

The first step is to test our knowledge!

Where do you start for a teacher (tutor) who wants to prepare students for exams?

First, you need to improve your language base! To do this, simply test yourself by making one of the USE options.

By checking yourself on the answers where possible (ask the more experienced ones to check the letter and essays), you will see a real picture of your knowledge and will see your gaps.

Based on what has been proven, you will already know where to strengthen your work, what types of skills to focus on. It can be a lexical and grammatical part or a letter. Or is it hard for you to listen or read?

In any case, you must understand one thing: you must be confident in your knowledge! (it is clear that it is impossible to know everything, but everyone has their own confidence scale)

If you don’t have this feeling, then improve until you reach the level that is sufficient for you to teach.

Here I will make a reservation that you do not need to know the language at the level of a native speaker, we do not pursue this goal. I am talking now about making it comfortable for you to teach children with your knowledge.

And the level of comfort is different for everyone! What do I mean by this?

For example, it is one thing to explain the grammatical topic to the student (from a methodological point of view, to submit the material so that the student understands everything), it is another matter why the sentence uses this or that time or construction (and here you already show your knowledge, directly linguistic) …

If you do this with ease and without a twinge of conscience, you can look at something in the dictionary with the student, if you don’t know something, then you have almost reached your level of comfort.

The second stage — we study everything about the USE format

I think that many of you are already familiar with what the Unified State Exam is, many teachers have already passed it. But I already gave some information about what the Unified State Exam is and what it is eaten with.

There you can download the encoder and demo version, as well as get advice on self-preparation for the Unified State Exam in English.

Our task, as a teacher (tutor), is to receive complete information about the exam format, about the sections of the exam! Where can I get it? For example, here. (Verbitskaya’s lectures are very useful and will help you clarify some points)

The third stage is the preparation of materials for students

So, here we have learned with you our level of language proficiency. Now you need some materials on which you will study with children. Of course, you can buy any books where the Unified State Exam is written in English, but sooner or later you will understand that these are just variants of exam tasks and they are all the same type.

We need a more systematic approach. That is, work on each section. I will not talk about listening and reading yet, since these are sections that require more independence from students than our help.

But on the lexical and grammatical part, I will dwell in more detail. Where to begin? What topics do you need to study? I have prepared for you a list of grammar topics that you must definitely study with your students. All of them can meet at the exam.

Download the list of grammar topics

From this list, take topics and go through with the students. As you pass, fix it — put a check in front of each topic or cross it out. So clearly you will see how much you have left to go through, as well as how many classes you can pay attention to them.

You can also give a theory at home in the form of videogrammar (for example, a school grammar course in video format). The student will remember the material again if he missed something in class or simply forgot something.

To consolidate grammatical topics, choose special grammar manuals, where there are a lot of exercises. For example, I use the following tutorials:

  • Round-Up 3, 4, 5 (a series where all tasks are in English and theory too)
  • New Round-Up 3, 4 (Russian-language series, theory in Russian)

How to effectively prepare for the exam in English in three months

Everyone knows that you need to prepare for exams in advance. But few people seriously begin training in a few years (or even a year). What if there is nothing left? Puzzle English experts analyze the structure of the Unified State Exam in English and explain what you need to pay attention to in case of emergency preparation for the exam.

It so happened that in recent years, the conditions for the final certification of schoolchildren are constantly changing, and there is simply no one to adapt training to new conditions and train teachers. So it turns out that it seems like you solve tasks at school using the collection, and errors appear systematically.

What can we say about the oral part, which on the exam will have to be taken at the computer, and preparation for this form of exam is not at all in all schools. If you are working with a tutor, then he has probably already identified your weaknesses, and you are working together to eliminate the most «stubborn» mistakes.

And if you are preparing on your own, then it is important to understand what they want from you in the assignment, and how to prepare for this.

The Unified State Exam in English consists of two large parts: written and oral. Writing is listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary assignments, plus writing. Oral — three tasks. The written part lasts 180 minutes, and the oral part — 15, and is held separately, on another day.

Each section has a maximum score of 20 points. Thus, all five sections will add up to 100 points. In terms of our system, you will get a «five» for 84-100 points, a «four» for 59-83 points, and a «three» for 20-58.

Be sure to look at how many points your university requires for admission, and take this indicator as the lower bar.

Listening

This part lasts half an hour. Several skills are tested here. In the first task, you will hear six monologues and establish a correspondence between the speaker and the statements from the list (there will be one extra answer in the list). This is one of the most difficult tasks that will require you to work with keywords.

In the second task, you will hear a monologue. You are given statements, and the task will be to determine whether they correspond to the content of the text (True), do not match (False), or there is no information about this at all in the text (Not Stated). In activities 3-8, you must demonstrate a skill in comprehending details and specific information. You will listen to a dialogue or monologue and then answer multiple-choice questions.

How to prepare

Fortunately, almost all of the listening tasks are written by people with a British accent. It would be much more difficult for you if people with different accents spoke in each statement. For better listening comprehension, you need to get used to the tempo of speech and other people’s intonation.

It is best to start preparing with audiobooks read by native speakers. Depending on your level, you can choose an original or an adapted book

The latter option is good for the presence of tasks after each chapter. This will allow you to listen to the chapter first and then complete the assignment.

The closer the exam, the more attention should be paid to working with what you have heard. On the exam, you will have to listen to the keywords in the first task. As you prepare, listen to the text and write down any keywords that will help you relate the statement to the speaker. Moreover, no one forbids you to write down anything during the exam. Do not forget that there are pauses in the recording so that you have time to familiarize yourself with the assignment.

Be sure to review all the questions so you can see possible keywords in advance and identify the topics that will be discussed in the post. Try to predict the answer: quite often this is possible.

Be sure to check the answers the second time you listen! Even if you answered all the questions, you might have missed some small detail and «got caught» with a similar but incorrect answer. Never leave questions unanswered… If you understand the general essence of the statement, you can guess the answer. And most importantly, don’t forget to carefully transfer your answers to the answer sheet.

Reading

The reading includes questions 10 through 18 and tests three important skills. The first is the ability to understand the main idea of the text. This skill is tested in task 10, where you need to choose a title for a short passage. You have 7 fragments of text, and 8 passages.

Task 11 will test your knowledge of syntax. Here you will need to fill in the gaps in the sentences with the appropriate grammatical structure. And again, one option for substitution in the gap will be superfluous.

Tasks 12 to 18 test the ability to search for information in the text. You will need to choose the correct answer from several options. In this case, the questions go in the order of presentation in the text.

Please note that you have only 30 minutes for all tasks. Consider the limit when preparing and try to complete each part in a maximum of 10 minutes. The closer you get to the exam, the more often time you take when solving test problems and see what causes difficulties. Work in the order that suits you best for the exam: start with the easiest part and finish with the hardest part.

Preparation for the exam in English: how to get 100 points?

Already in 2020, the USE in English will become a mandatory exam for Russian schoolchildren. Therefore, we decided to interview Mikhail Lancman, the director of the USE and OGE courses at Lancman School. He told us about his attitude to the USE system, about the difficulties faced by schoolchildren and gave advice on how to properly prepare for the USE in English in order to eventually get the coveted 100 points.

“We miss a lot in life simply because we are afraid of the level of our requests. Firmly decide for yourself that no other option, except for the 100 points you need, will work. «

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Mikhail Lantsman, director of USE and OGE courses at Lancman School.

I studied at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University and from the first year I was engaged in tutoring in mathematics. My brother was also a tutor, and quite quickly we organized a small tutoring center, where since 2008 we have been preparing high school students for state exams, including telling them how to prepare for the Unified State Exam in English.

Mikhail Lantsman

What exams, besides compulsory (Russian and mathematics), do schoolchildren prepare most often?

The social studies exam has long been the most popular elective subject. More than half of the graduates take it. This is due to the fact that it is this subject that is asked in all economic universities, where most of the applicants go, according to the statistics for 2017 of the Higher School of Economics.

The next most popular subjects are physics and history. Physics is required for admission to most technical universities, and history is required for many humanitarian departments. Then comes the English language, biology, chemistry and computer science.

What level of English is required to pass the exam for a good score?

Not lower than B1 — Intermediate.

“The idea of the Unified State Exam is very correct. The knowledge of schoolchildren should really be assessed according to a unified system ”.

How to start preparing for the exam in English?

Firstly, study the requirements for passing the Unified State Exam in a foreign language, and secondly, assess your vocabulary (at least 1500 words — minimum) and your grammar knowledge. If you feel that knowledge is not enough yet, you should work harder so that the preparation for the exam in English is most effective.

Lexicon

  • Read adapted literature New words should be written out in a separate notebook and repeated periodically. For better memorization, it is advisable to write out words immediately in sentences in order to understand the context of the words used. If you are confident in your pronunciation, try recording words on a voice recorder.
  • Learn vocabulary by topic Thinking about how to prepare for the USE in English, many schoolchildren forget that there is an open list of topics that will be covered in the exam — youth problems, school, future profession, sports, travel, learning foreign languages, ecology, hobbies etc. Learn thematic vocabulary: synonyms, phrasal verbs, stable sentences, constructions. This is especially true for tasks of increased difficulty level — 32-38.
  • Retell texts This will help you both remember new words and improve their pronunciation.

Grammar

Preparation for the exam in English in the grammar section should focus on several aspects: articles, tenses, passive voice, conditional sentences and tenses, indirect speech, plural nouns, pronouns and the degree of comparison of adjectives, numerals.

Divide difficult topics such as times into multiple sections. After each, I advise you to do the exercises in order to consolidate the knowledge gained.

Essay

Check out the requirements for writing essays in English (they are slightly different from essays in other subjects) and learn some beautiful cliché phrases and connecting words. You can start with the simplest ones: in my opinion, in conclusion, nowadays, finally, additionally.

: how to prepare for exams and not go crazy

Preparation for the exam in English — oral part

Try to talk as much as possible and whenever possible. As a rule, students have several problems in the oral part:

  • the student forgets all grammar while speaking
  • falls into a stupor and forgets words
  • poorly constructs sentences and confuses constructions

There are two reasons for this — excitement and language barrier. It is very difficult to deal with anxiety, but it is possible to “talk” your English: read more, watch films with subtitles, travel to English speaking countries. Preparing for the Unified State Exam in English is a labor-intensive, but interesting and educational process. Do not be afraid to communicate with native speakers: this will help you achieve fluency faster.

And of course, it will never be superfluous to insure yourself and remember a few formulaic phrases that will help you not get lost in thought:

For photo description: I’ve chosen picture №1 While traveling I always take lots of photos and today I’m going to tell you about one of them Look at this photo

In the photo you can see

For photo comparison:
Both of the photos are related to (work) In both of them there are some people who are

However, the photos have certain differences too.

«Only those students who want to pass the exam well are involved in additional courses.»

How do you feel about the USE system in general?

The idea of the exam is very correct. The knowledge of schoolchildren should really be assessed according to a single system. Universities must also admit applicants in a transparent and understandable way, so that everyone has equal conditions in the first stages of education. But the implementation of this idea turned out to be not entirely successful.

Why do you consider the USE implementation unsuccessful? What would you change?

Firstly, for many years there was a problem with the «leaking» of tasks to the Internet or to third parties who made very good money on this.

In addition, the tests in some subjects were not compiled very correctly — you could just guess the answer. Some tasks turned out to be so ambiguous that, for example, preparation for the Unified State Exam in English caused controversy even among teachers. Nevertheless, all these shortcomings are gradually being eliminated.

At the moment, the main problem, in addition to the qualitative compilation of kims (assignments) in individual subjects, I see the psychological aspect. Many schoolchildren are not prepared for this level of stress: the media, metal detectors and cameras only add excitement and do not help solve the problem. I think that the organizers of testing should think over not only academic, but also psychological preparation for schoolchildren.

How to start preparing for exams?

Answer yourself to two questions: «Which university and which faculty do I want to enter?» Unfortunately, most high school students cannot provide a clear answer. But the set of additional exams depends on him. It often happens that in the middle of the school year, a student changes the subject, because he understands that he wants to be not an economist, but a writer, for example. It turns out that an unconscious choice takes six months of diligent preparation.

This does not mean that you immediately choose your destiny and one specific profession. It can be a whole area with many professions. It is important at least to choose a direction that is close to you.

There is also another way — you can get a quality education, and then choose from a wide range of professions. So it was with me. Graduates of the Mechanics and Mathematics Department become whoever they are: someone goes to work in banks and insurance companies, someone in programming. I myself went to work in the field of education, but this is my own business, that is, I am more of an entrepreneur. We were not taught this.

Fundamental education is needed first of all in order to form the skill to learn. And this skill is much more important than practical skills.

How long does it take to prepare for the exam?

10 months ago Author Name

The question that students and their parents often ask is «How long can it take to prepare for the exam?» Since I work at school and sometimes have to talk with students and their parents about homework that has not been completed, about the fact that children do not learn words, I often hear: «SO BEFORE THE EXAM IS ANOTHER 3 OR 4 YEARS WE WILL HAPPEN!» Is it so much 3-4 years?

This article is about whether it is possible to prepare for the Unified State Exam in English in a short time and how much time you need to prepare specifically for you. What level of English do you need to know in order to successfully pass the exam? And what knowledge each level implies.

First, let’s see what level the exam is designed for. And what knowledge is required for this level.

The OGE exam is taken by graduates of the 9th grade and is designed for the Pre-Intermediate level of language proficiency, which corresponds to A2 and Intermediate B1 on the CEFR scale. In CMMs there are tasks of both levels.

The USE exam is taken by 11th grade graduates and the required level of knowledge of English for its successful passing is Upper-Intermediate, which corresponds to B2 on the CEFR scale. In CMMs there are tasks from level A2 to B2.

To prepare for the exam format itself, if the student has a level of knowledge that corresponds to this exam, OGE level A2-B1, USE level B1-B2, he will need about 60-70 hours and the same amount to repeat the material. This is approximately 45-50 minutes every day, minus weekends and holidays from September to May inclusively, or 5-6 hours a week.

Now let’s imagine that the student’s level is Beginner.

That is, he can build a few simple sentences in English, answer elementary questions about himself, his hobby, can meet people using a few simple phrases, make basic purchases in a store and order a dish in a restaurant, knows the basics of grammar and reading rules, he has a small vocabulary (from 500 to 700 words and phrases.), can read simple small texts and dialogues, understand the primitive speech of foreigners, if they speak clearly and slowly, can write a short text from several simple sentences.

This means that in order to successfully pass the exams, he needs to pass (study) several levels, respectively, for this exam. Take the OGE, you need to pass the levels: Elementary A1, Pre-Intermediate A2 and at least half of Intermediate B1.

The average time for mastering one level is from 90 to 120 hours of classroom lessons plus the same amount of independent work. We have 2 and a half courses, it turns out 225-300 hours, add here preparation for the exam format 120-140 hours and we get 345-440 hours.

I would add extra time for listening and reading here.

So think 3-4 years is this a lot or not? It’s time to start actively preparing.

If we talk about the exam, then with the Beginner level, preparation will take 700-800 hours.

The most ideal thing is to learn the language from the second grade and not start it.

So what you need to know to pass the exam

How to prepare for the exam and exam in English | language school «INYAZ Studio»

Taking the English language as part of the OGE is not mandatory, but many high school students choose this particular discipline. This is a challenging exam and requires careful preparation. The language level for delivery must be B1.

Each of the students must understand the structure of the exam and the specifics of the assignments. Anyone who does not know the specifics of the OGE and did not prepare for the test in advance can make annoying mistakes even with a high knowledge of the language. In order to prevent such a situation from happening, we will tell you how to prepare for the OGE in English.

How to prepare for reading

Exercise more often by completing these tasks. Write down all the new words and their translations — this will help expand your vocabulary. The more new vocabulary you memorize, the easier it will be to translate the texts on the exam. The experience of reading texts in English helps to guess about the translation of words from the context.

It is also very useful to read books by English-speaking authors in the original, because they are written in «living» language. You can combine business with pleasure.

Preparation for the OGE in English in the 9th grade — section «Grammar and Vocabulary»

This section contains two types of tasks. The first of them is for inflection (from 19 to 26 questions). In order to prepare for them, you need to know the rules about changes in the form of words in independent parts of speech.

Some of the tasks with word formation (from 27 to 32 points) will be easy to complete if you know what suffixes and prefixes need to be added to parts of speech and what they mean. These rules can be found in the OGE codifier for English.

Where can you find vocabulary and grammar exercises? First, in the collection of assignments with exercises. The year the books are published is not important, because the rules do not change over time. Secondly, on the Internet pages of the universities of Cambridge and Oxford.

In the process of preparation, it is better to perform similar tasks on inflection and word formation. All tasks of the section «grammar and vocabulary» on the OGE can be the same as in the practice tests.

What materials will help prepare for the delivery in the «Letter» section in English

This section is presented in only one issue — No. 33. The essence of the assignment is to write a response to an excerpt from your friend’s letter, which tells about some events from his life. You should use the rules for writing a personal informal letter.

Learn basic phrases for faster writing. This can be: an apology for the delay in answering, words of gratitude, a request for further correspondence, final phrases, etc.

Preparation for passing the oral part of the exam and exam in English

To pass the “Speaking” part, one of the most important preparation points is working on pronunciation. Practice reading texts not to yourself, but out loud. To work through these tasks, rehearse the «topics» from school English lessons. Although it is very commonplace, there is a lot of vocabulary that will come in handy for you.

Also on the site «I SOLVE OGE» you can find different examples of already solved tasks with various comments. Here you can work with your teachers and classmates.

Another way is to record a video with your monologue, and then review it and analyze your mistakes. You have to time the time to understand what awaits you on the real exam. Set a timer for reading the text (2 minutes), for a monologue (1 minute) and answering questions (1 minute each).

Listening in the OGE 2018

Listen more to prepare for this part of the exam. You can choose whatever you like, from blogger videos to songs in English. In addition, feature films will help you, they can be watched with or without subtitles.

Solve typical tasks presented on the Internet, they must be worked out to automatism. Then the different accents and speed of pronunciation of the speakers will not scare you.

If you do not understand the text the first time, listen to it as many times as necessary. All phrases, the meaning of which you do not know — write down and translate, because it will be easier to remember them this way.

Tasks 3-8 can be tricky and logical thinking questions, so be sure to practice solving them beforehand. The audio recording can only contain a hint of the correct answer, and you yourself already guess its final meaning.

Answers to questions for the Unified State Exam and the OGE in English — are there any?

Every year, offers to buy answers to the Unified State Exam and the OGE appear on the network, but this is a hoax. All information about the exams is strictly classified, so all advertisements for the sale of CMMs are posted by scammers.

Do not fall for provocations and carefully prepare for testing, do more extra work. Spend time with extra lessons at school and with a tutor, solve problems, read and listen to texts. We also recommend that you attend preparation courses for the Unified State Exam and the OGE in English.

With such active preparation, you will definitely decide on the OGE and USE for a high score. Good luck!

How to pass the exam in English in 2018

The unified state exam has been used in the Russian education system for a whole decade, and during this time this form of testing school knowledge after grade 11 has undergone numerous changes.

The USE in foreign languages, and above all, in English, differs from the method of passing compulsory school subjects, since it implies not only written, but also oral assignments, as well as work with audio materials.

This exam is useful for graduates who plan to enroll in liberal arts departments such as philology or international relations. If at the university itself training is conducted in a foreign language, then even more testing in English will be decisive for the applicant’s admission.

The structure of the exam in English

The exam in any foreign language can be divided into two parts: written assignments and oral testing… The exam program itself is divided into several days.

On the first day, students are tested for their knowledge of English writing, current grammar and colloquial vocabulary. Also, the writing part implies a student’s reading and listening test. The examinee receives a maximum of 20 points for each section. 40 minutes are given to complete tasks (and there are 180 of them in total). Thus, on the main day of the exam, a student can score 80 points.

On another day, graduates come to the oral part of the exam, and attend it at will. Testing lasts only a quarter of an hour and includes 4 tasks. Prospective graduates will have to describe the proposed images and answer questions. With correct answers, you can get a maximum of 20 points.

Consequently, a total of 100 points can be scored for the Unified State Exam in English. The minimum threshold is 22 points. If you reclassify the sum of points in school grades, you get the following gradation:

  • 0 to 21 points — two, i.e. failed;
  • 22 to 58 points — three («satisfactory»);
  • 59 to 83 points — four or «good»;
  • 84 to 100 points — five, i.e. «Great».

Schedule and results of the exam-2018

From mid-March to April, early exams will be passed. The right to such testing is given to graduates of evening schools, students without a certificate and schoolchildren graduated earlier than 2017. Also, those who enter the army, go abroad, have children, leave for medical treatment or competitions come to this exam.

The very process of exams (in all subjects) takes place from May 28 to June 20. A clear timetable for each exam can be checked on the official website. An additional USE is also held in September.

2 weeks after passing the exam, the USE results in English can also be checked on the USE website.

The situation on the exam is quite strict, you need to take this into account. Any telephones, notes, proofreaders, information carriers, conversations are prohibited. The classroom is under video surveillance. To take the Unified State Exam, you need to take your passport and a black gel pen with you.

Correction of the exam-2018

In April 2017, representatives of the Ministry of Education announced that all proposals for editing the USE will go through a stage of not only expert, but also public discussion. In general, despite rumors about the compulsory delivery of English in the coming year, no one is forcing students to choose this subject for testing outside of their academic interests and requirements in universities.

If we talk about small changes in the tasks of different parts, then they still exist in 2018. We are talking about the clarification of some formulations that allow you to more specifically define the assessment criteria. In the past, it was often difficult to understand what was considered an unambiguous violation or a serious error when responding:

  • Last year, graduates were required to complete their assignments. This meant: answers to all questions, three compiled questions on a specific topic, the correct choice of style in the conversation, depending on the topic and nature of the conversation.
  • In 2018, the above requirements remain relevant, but the graduate has the right to one incomplete or not accurately reflected aspect in a speech or letter. In addition, the essence of the fourth assignment from the “Speaking” section has become more precise.

What are the parts of the exam in English

Let’s see what specific tasks each part of the exam in English consists of and what to do to cope with them in the best possible way.

Listening

In half an hour, the graduate must complete three tasks based on the fragment included by the examiners. include only once, but between the three fragments there are pauses for filling out forms with answers. A total of 9 tasks and a total of 15 questions, for which you can score a maximum of 20 points.

The examinee is required to:

  1. correlate the statements of the audio speakers with the proposed statements (6 points);
  2. determine whether the replicas indicated on the paper are true or not in accordance with the audio fragment (7 points);
  3. select answers to questions from the proposed options, based on the material heard (7 points).

During listening tasks, listen as much as possible to the words of the speaker, as they hide the answers to some tasks (or at least have good clues). Usually, during the audio recording, all the answer options are mentioned, but only one is correct, be careful.

Reading

In 30 minutes, examiners must test the student’s analytical skills. A total of 9 tasks and a total of 20 questions, for which you can score a maximum of 20 points.

There are also three parts in this block:

  1. selection of a suitable heading for short texts (7 points);
  2. filling in gaps in the text (6 points);
  3. choice of correct answers to questions (7 points).

As you read, try to complete each assignment within 10 minutes. It is better to determine the meaning and essence of the text by keywords. The questions in the assignment are presented in accordance with the logic of the movement of the text, so do not look for the answer to the first exercise at the end of the material. Also, repeat the construction of complex sentences before the exam.

Vocabulary and Grammar

In this part, about two-thirds of the tasks identify grammatical and word-formation skills in English, and another 30% of the exercises are aimed at choosing the correct answer options, taking into account the context and grammatical forms. There are 20 tasks in total, the maximum number of points is 20.

40 minutes are given to solve all problems:

  1. insert gaps in the text, giving the words the correct grammatical form (7 points);
  2. choose the correct form of the word, as parts of speech, and fill in the gaps in the text (6 points);
  3. fill in the gaps in the fragment, choosing from the presented ready-made options (7 points).

Each task from the vocabulary and grammar section should take 12 minutes, and only the second exercise should take a quarter of an hour. For this part of the Unified State Exam, it is important to know the tenses and forms of verbs, as well as the degrees of adjectives, features of voice, ordinal numbers. Review the rules for forming suffixes and prefixes in English. It is important to have a good understanding of the collocations of English words.

Letter

Written assignments assess the organization of the text, literacy, correct use of vocabulary, and overall performance of the assignment. The essay evaluates spelling and punctuation, including.

In 80 minutes, you need to do two tasks (maximum 20 points):

  1. compose a written response to a «letter to a friend» (approximately 100-140 words), based on his message (6 points)
  2. create an essay (about 200-250 words) on the desired topic (14 points).

When completing the writing part, you do not need to do all the tasks on a draft; it is better to just jot down ideas there to save time. Pay attention to the quality introduction and results in the text. Remember, a personal letter is different from an essay.

In the first, a conversational style is allowed, in the second — a neutral one. In the letter, thank the «friend» and ask as many questions as possible, and in the essay, explain your point of view, use linking words and adhere to the volume indicated in the assignment.

Don’t forget to divide your text into paragraphs.

Oral speech

This is the fastest block in the exam, it takes only 15 minutes and includes 4 tasks (20 points maximum):

  1. read a pseudo-scientific text aloud (1 point in 3 minutes);
  2. ask questions about an ad by keywords (5 points in 3 minutes);
  3. describe images (7 points in 3,5 minutes)
  4. compare photos according to a given scheme (also 7 points).

To pass oral speech within the USE, you should practice pronunciation. Pay attention to pauses in conversation, correct stress and intonation accents. Speak clearly and remember the timing. Ask questions correctly and do not be afraid to appeal to speech English stamps.

Preparation for the exam in English

You need to start preparing for the English exam the sooner the better. The most effective option is to study with a tutor and prepare additionally at home. Do not count on the fact that before the exam you will be able to purchase ready-made answers or be able to complete tasks using cheat sheets.

How to prepare for the exam in English

In many schools, the study of English begins from the first grade, and the USE in this subject is chosen by more and more non-linguistic universities every year. Let’s take a look at what you need to consider in order to prepare for the exam as efficiently as possible.

Preparing for the exam in English correctly

It is important to understand that the language cannot be learned in a short time. Preparation for the exam in English it is best to start a few years before the exam. An analysis of the most common student mistakes suggests that in some schools, preparation boils down to constantly solving template tests. This strategy is incorrect, since language knowledge cannot be divided into separate skills.

For better quality preparation for the exam in English you should immediately put yourself in the appropriate language environment: read texts of different genres, listen to songs and watch various programs and films in English for at least half an hour a day.

It will help drawing up tablets for the main tenses and other grammatical rules that will always be in front of your eyes. Cramming new words is pointless — take the time to read basic conversational topics, prepare the perfect essay, and improve your time management skills.

However, one should not completely forget about the test items. Be sure to listen to sample materials on listening, look at examples of last year’s tasks in other blocks — this will help you navigate what to expect. Pay special attention to those moments that caused you even minor difficulties.

Ege in English — how to behave on the exam?

Be sure to read the text before listening to the listening assignment. You will need to relax and take in all the material in its entirety, and not snatch individual words and phrases out of context. After the first listening, it is better to mark the answers in which you are sure, in order to pay attention to controversial points during the second listening.

It is important to remember that you do not need to have any additional knowledge to answer the questions of the «Reading» block — all the necessary information is already in the text. The main thing is to read the entire text and understand its meaning. You should not pay attention to every unfamiliar word, unfamiliar words in the text are normal.

In the written assignment, try to use vocabulary different from the text of the assignment. Keep track of the time, adhere to the structure of the text and stay on topic. Be sure to allow time for additional checking and bug fixes. And remember that essays shorter than 200 words will not be checked, and all over 250 words will simply be crossed out.

Today the Unified State Exam consists of four sections (listening, reading, vocabulary and grammar, writing), but from this year a “speaking” block will be added to the exam, preparation for which is often one of the most difficult tasks for those who pass the exam. The main thing in oral response is not to get lost and show your communication skills using a wide vocabulary and the necessary grammatical structures.

If you are not sure you can prepare for the exam in English on your own, contact the specialists of the Linguistic Center «Lotsman» for complete information on the preparation courses for the state exam in a foreign language.

Preparation plan for the exam in English

The Unified State Exam in English is an optional subject that can be supplemented with a set of four exams — two compulsory (Russian and mathematics) and two optional (most often those that are required in the specialty in the universities of your choice).

German, French, Spanish and even Chinese are also available in the USE format. But the undisputed leader is English — the language of world business, economics, politics, medicine, art, and many other areas and spheres.

How to prepare for the USE in English so that the exam results not only please you, but also allow you to create a strong knowledge base for further study and career advancement? Let’s take a look at this article.

What it is?

The Unified State Exam in English comprehensively tests your knowledge of the subject:

  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Grammar and vocabulary
  • Letter
  • Speaking

The test is divided into five components, four of which you complete in writing and one — orally. The written and oral parts are divided over two days so as not to overload you with the volume of tasks performed.

You don’t have to pass the speaking, but then the score is guaranteed to be lower (you will get a maximum of 80 points out of 100, provided that all the test tasks are completed correctly).

If you are counting on a high score, be sure to pay attention to preparing for the speaking part.

What is the structure?

The amount is allocated for execution 3 hours 15 minutes.

The written part contains 44 tasks:

  • 19 of them are considered the most basic.
  • 9 — medium level of difficulty.
  • 16 — it is customary to evaluate as the most difficult.

The format for completing tasks is also different:

  • At 22, you will need to choose the correct answer and enter it correctly in the form.
  • 4 tasks — to establish correspondence (with multiple choice).
  • At 13, you need to fill in the gap with the required lexical unit.
  • 6 more tasks will require a detailed written answer.

Let’s take a closer look at what awaits us on the test and what knowledge needs to be demonstrated in order to convince the assessors that you are fluent in the subject.

General part tasks:

  • 1 — is it clear in general the content of the listened text.
  • 2 — whether a piece of information was heard for a correct answer.
  • 3-9 — whether the entire text is understandable.
  • 10 — is the main content of the text clear?
  • 11 — understanding of structural and semantic connections.
  • 12-18 — whether the information from the text is fully understood.
  • 19-25 — test of grammar skills.
  • 26-38 — test of lexical and grammatical skills.

Part C assignments:

  • 39 (C1) will require writing a personal letter.
  • 40 (C2) will test your reasoning skills and expressing your own opinion in writing.

Tasks for the oral part:

  • 41 (C3) — reading the text aloud.
  • 42 (C4) — dialogue with the examiner and answers to questions.
  • 43 (C5) — a coherent monologue on a given topic, containing the necessary basic types of speech (description, narration, reasoning and characteristics).
  • 44 (C6) — a coherent monologue that conveys the main content of what he saw (in a picture or photograph) and an expression of personal opinion on this issue.

How is it assessed?

Primary scores correspond to test scores, therefore, you can get a maximum of 100 scores for completing all tasks.

The minimum required for the exam to be counted is 22 points.

For each of the test items, you can get from 1 (basic, with a choice of answer) to 14 points (a written essay expressing your own opinion on the topic).

The table will help to translate the results into a five-point scale:

Assessment on a 5-point scale «2» «3» «4» «5»
Primary / test score 0 – 21 22 – 58 59 – 83 84 – 100

What to use?

Before you start planning, you need to choose aids for preparing for the exam in English, which are somewhat different from each other in their structure.

It can be:

  • Tutorials — contain the necessary theoretical component that must be mastered before passing.
  • Training tasks — usually grouped by areas (listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary, speaking).
  • Typical options — collections that contain tests similar to exam.
  • More — a specific set of academic material (for example, lists of cliché phrases, honing skills in working with printed text, specifics of working with the structure of language exams, etc.)

It is best to switch and alternate between them. When you decide with the materials, you can start drawing up a preparation plan.

How to Prepare for Listening?

This part usually scares graduates by the fact that it is difficult to perceive information by ear, especially if it happens during an exam, in a huge audience and in a stressful state.

  1. Try to get used to listening to audio clips in advance so that the sound of the announcer’s voice does not lead you into a stupor.
  2. When you stop being afraid of audio recordings, try working with different passages (use not only examples from tests, but also third-party resources — radio, songs, audiobooks in English).
  3. Come up with your own training system according to which you will be comfortable working. Listen to the entire passage, then use your own words. Or vice versa: listen in small chunks, trying to grab as many words as possible.

The habit of performing these tasks in a comfortable environment and according to a convenient principle will help not to get nervous, not to be distracted and to concentrate on the solution.

How do I prepare to read?

It would seem, what is wrong with a text that (unlike listening) is at your fingertips throughout the exam?

But do not rush to immediately push the preparation for this part to the last plan.

The questions in the test will be designed in such a way that they have a «double bottom». This means that literally over each answer you will think for a long time: either because you cannot find the correct answer, or because it will seem to you that there are several of them in the text.

It is best to work out the nuances of working with such tricky formulations with a specialist who knows all the pitfalls.

For example, the DiveLang School of Foreign Languages for graduates has a special preparation course for the Unified State Exam in English.

How to prepare for a grammar and vocabulary test?

In the case of vocabulary, use the techniques mentioned earlier. Reading, watching movies and TV series in the original, songs and audiobooks — all this allows you to replenish the vocabulary with new phrases and expressions every day. Try to use at least one of these tools daily.

The one who often hears them will learn to skillfully operate with grammatical constructions. And most importantly, he uses it himself.

Write down examples of constructions, group similar ones together — so it will be easier to remember them. Don’t try to learn a living wage. You won’t be able to follow the exact script on the exam, and if you forget something from the jagged list you will only get more confused.

How to prepare for a letter?

Traditionally, this is considered to be the hardest part for Russian graduates.

But if you «fill your hand» and how to practice writing a letter and presentation — no difficulties will arise.

  • Learn to formulate your thoughts are clear, clear and concise. This is important, because if you go into long arguments, you risk losing the essence of the story and making mistakes.
  • Follow the style. If you are writing, for example, a personal letter to a friend, you should not write in a pompous official tone.
  • Maintain structure (and be sure to work it out in advance!). If the answer lacks essential elements (for example, arguments or conclusions), you will not be able to earn a high score.

How to prepare for the conversational part?

Practice is important here, practice and practice again. You can learn to read, listen and write in silence, but you will not be able to learn to speak silently for sure.

Take every opportunity to practice your English:

  • Give directions to a tourist on the street.
  • Ask a question at the youth conference if English-speaking speakers are speaking there.
  • Take part in an international competition.
  • Attend English speaking clubs, seminars and lectures in your city.

Even in the morning, getting ready for school and brushing your teeth, mentally refer to your reflection in the mirror, for example, thinking through plans for the day. This will help you form the habit of thinking in English right away, rather than translating from Russian in your head at first.

Having carefully worked out the strategy and following it, you may well be able to prepare for the USE in English in a year. The main thing is to study every day and harmoniously distribute the time between the preparation for all five modules.

In recent years, the structure of the exam has not undergone major changes — the wording of the tasks was slightly modified and the number of primary test points was equated to the final ones. It is better to track changes regularly so that you can adapt to them if necessary.

We are sure that you will be able to pass the USE in English by 100 points!

And DiveLang will help you with this.

7 cool services for preparing for the exam in English

Exams are just around the corner, but in your head only “London is the capital of Great Britain”? Don’t worry, we have collected for you various simulators that will help you pass the exam in English with excellent marks.

The secret to achieving great results is very simple: practice makes perfect. The habit of practicing English every day leads to impressive results.

There are never too many tests: Unified State Exam in English online

Yandex Unified State Exam

One of the most popular free exam preparation services. On the site you can find a sufficient number of options for the exam with solutions, there is also a timer to track the time spent, and the process of filling out the form is quite convenient. But, in my opinion, the tasks are slightly below the complexity of real tests.

I will solve the exam

The good old Reshu Unified State Exam has repeatedly saved those who had few school assignments. The service is free, a large number of options, it is possible to train selected tasks, even from part C. For example, I very often had errors in vocabulary and grammar assignments, and it was on these sections that I focused more.

The disadvantages include ubiquitous advertising and (for aesthetes) outdated website design. There are also too many materials collected there, and some of them may be compiled according to earlier USE standards.

Lingualeo

I can’t resist and write about my native Lingualeo, all the more there is something to boast about: here I found, perhaps, the most difficult versions of the USE tests in English.

I am ashamed to admit, but on Lingualeo I got only half of the correct answers! This is a minus for me: in 2014, I scored 92 points on the real exam. It turns out I’m losing my grip

This is a big plus for you: if the training tasks are so difficult, then on a real exam you will look something like this:

An interesting feature of our course for preparing for the exam: during its passage you cannot translate unknown words, as is usually the case in all other sections and trainings, and this creates an environment that is as close as possible to a real exam.

You CAN speak English: we hand over the oral part

Trainer of the “Speaking” part from the official portal of the Unified State Examination

If the thought that you will have the oral part of the exam makes your knees tremble treacherously, then do not pass by this site. It was created specifically so that what happens on the exam does not put you into a state of shock.

There you will learn everything about the procedure for the oral part of the exam. For example, before completing assignments, you need to select a background melody so that other participants do not distract you.

We have collected a few more services that will serve as an excellent addition to training in textbooks and simulators.

Listening — Level999

RhinoSpike

This service will help you improve your listening skills and get to know different accents of the English language. To do this, you need to upload some text to the site, for example, a fragment of your favorite book in the original, and a native speaker will read it aloud and record it on audio. In turn, you can also upload recordings in Russian, and help people around the world learn the great and mighty.

  • лексики, синонимов, антонимов;
  • сочетаемости предлогов со словами;
