В этой статье я расскажу про самые полезные и проверенные временем ресурсы для подготовки к SAT, которые я постоянно использую в своей работе. Мы посмотрим на краткое содержание и достоинства каждого учебника. Формат SAT был достаточно значительно изменен в марте 2016 года, поэтому нам нужны пособия, изданные после этой даты.
Официальные тесты
При выборе книг для подготовки к SAT очень важно убедиться, что в книге присутствует именно тот материал, который встретится на экзамене, а тренировочные задания максимально точно имитируют настоящие экзаменационные. И если с первым условием все достаточно просто — издателю просто нужно добросовестно проработать экзамен и включить нужный материал в свою книгу, то со вторым все гораздо сложнее — создать такие материалы, которые бы точно соответствовали настоящему SAT, не так-то просто. Поэтому вашим основным источником тренировочных материалов станут официальные тесты от автора экзамена — компании Collegeboard.org.
Эти тесты можно найти в официальном руководстве к экзамену — SAT Official Guide, однако их также можно совершенно легально и бесплатно скачать на сайте Collegeboard. Всего доступно 10 тестов, и так как это самый ценный источник заданий для практики, ими нужно распоряжаться с умом (и совершенно точно не прорешивать тест за тестом!) В каждой папке вы найдете сам тест, ключи и объяснения правильных и неправильных ответов. Последние очень часто написаны в стиле «Ответ A правильный, потому что это лучший способ перефразировать предложение, а ответы B,C,D неправильные, так как они не соответствуют стилю текста». То есть официальные объяснения, прямо скажем, оставляют желать лучшего.
В вашем распоряжении восемь официальных тестов с сайта Collegeboard и два дополнительных теста (№2 и №4), которых сейчас нет на официальном сайте.
Для языкового раздела
Лучшие книги для подготовки к языковому разделу (Verbal), на мой взгляд — это учебники автора Erica Meltzer. В ее книгах вы найдете все, что необходимо для тщательной и качественной работы над экзаменационными заданиями.
Для подготовки к части Reading горячо рекомендую The Complete Guide to SAT Reading by Erica Meltzer. Автор очень подробно пишет о том, как работать с текстами и улучшить свой навык чтения. После описания общих стратегий следуют 12 глав с подробным разбором всех типов вопросов, стратегиями и рекомендациями для каждого типа задания, комментариями по поводу сложных случаев и большим количеством практики с объяснениями ответов. Каждая глава посвящена отдельному типу вопроса, дается текст и вопросы к нему для тренировки. Задания максимально приближены к экзаменационным. В книге также есть список дополнительной литературы для чтения и полезное приложение — указатель типов вопросов из официальных тестов для отслеживания прогресса и направленной работы над отдельными навыками.
Для подготовки к части Writing and Language Test существует настолько же великолепная The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar by Erica Meltzer. Сейчас вышло пятое издание. В этой книге подробно разбирается вся грамматика, которая потребуется вам для успешной сдачи экзамена. Автор дает основную теорию с самых азов — частей речи и частей предложения и постепенно переходит к более сложному материалу. В книге достаточно как теории — подробные понятные объяснения с примерами, так и практики — множество упражнений на каждую тему. Тщательно разобраны все темы, как простые — согласование, параллельные конструкции, пунктуация, так и сложные — краткость и связность выражения, сочетание стилей речи, структура предложений, параграфов и текста. Теория сопровождается полезной информацией, например, списками устойчивых выражений и сложных пар слов. Всего в книге 19 глав, итоговый тренировочный тест, а также полезное приложение в виде указателя типов вопросов для Official Test – для каждого официального вопроса указан его тип Это поможет при диагностике понять, какие темы представляют сложность.
Для прицельной работы над лексикой есть учебник SAT Vocabulary того же автора. Отдельных заданий на знание сложных слов в новом SAT уже нет, однако лексика высокого уровня нужна для хорошего понимания текстов. Этот учебник имеет те же достоинства, что и предыдущие книги — великолепный подбор материала, понятные объяснения и примеры и много практики.
Для всех разделов
В учебнике McGraw-Hill Education 2017 SAT вы найдете материал для подготовки ко всем разделам экзамена. Там есть:
- Целая глава посвященная разбору экзамена SAT, то есть подробная информация о формате, оценивании, а также общая информация по подготовке, регистрации и сдаче.
- Диагностический SAT – это полный тест с разбором ответов, имитирующий настоящий SAT.
С третьей главы начинается непосредственно учебный материал.
- Сложная лексика, которая может потребоваться вам на экзамене. В добавление к определению слова, вы найдете там синонимы, однокоренные и производные слова, подсказки для более быстрого запоминания (так называемые mnemonics) и примеры употребления.
- Разбор грамматической части теста — Writing and Language Test. Это грамматика, которую нужно знать для этого раздела — структура предложения, согласование частей предложения, параллельные конструкции, время, залог и наклонение глагола, устойчивые выражения, пунктуация, а также более сложные темы — выражения-связки, организация информации в параграфе и тексте, логическая структура высказывания.
- Глава с наиболее эффективными стратегиями работы с частью Reading, то есть текстами.
- Четыре главы по математике — базовые темы, работа с графиками и таблицами и более сложный материал.
Последние главы книги — это три тренировочных теста с ключами и объяснением правильных ответов.
Еще одна книга, где хорошо разобраны и языковая, и математическая части — это Princeton Review’s Cracking the SAT Premium Edition with 6 Practice Tests (издание 2017 года и последующие издания). В этом учебнике есть отличные задания на таблицы и графики, а также очень много практики по математике.
McGraw-Hill SAT и Cracking the SAT относятся к учебникам, где дается материал по всем частям экзамена. Таких пособий очень много — это книги издательств Kaplan, Barron’s, Princeton и другие. Как правило, сторонние издатели хорошо дают математику — этот материал сопровождается полезными объяснениями и советами, а также множеством тренировочных заданий. Однако что касается языкового раздела, имитировать настоящий экзамен намного сложнее. Это и делает книги Erica Meltzer такими незаменимыми.

В заключение отмечу, что для подготовки к SAT вам не потребуется очень много книг. Обязательными будут все десять Official Tests, две книги автора Erica Meltzer — SAT Reading и SAT Grammar, а также одна из книг по математике. При необходимости можно взять еще книгу по лексике и добавить столько практики по математике, сколько потребуется.

Нужно ли учить новые слова для SAT?
Новый формат SAT, действующий с 2016 года, не содержит отдельных заданий на лексику. Однако в текстах языковой секции часто встречаются редкие слова академической лексики английского языка. Другими словами, SAT косвенно проверяет знание расширенного вокабуляра.
Ограниченный словарный запас является существенным фактором, негативно влияющим на результат экзамена. Процесс подготовки к SAT должен включать систематическую работу по расширению словарного запаса. Мы рекомендуем выучить минимум 1500 новых слов для успешной сдачи SAT. С эффективной методикой развития лексики для SAT можно ознакомиться на нашем сайте.
Где и когда проводится экзамен?
Общий экзамен SAT проводится по фиксированным датам несколько раз в год в официальных тестовых центрах. Как правило, экзамен проводится осенью, зимой и весной.
Официальные тестовые центры могут функционировать на базе международных школ или центров изучения английского языка. В России центры действуют в Москве, Санкт-Петербурге и некоторых других больших городах. Узнать о наличии центра в вашем городе и о датах проведения экзамена можно на официальном сайте SAT.
Как зарегистрироваться на SAT?
Регистрация на экзамен производится через личный кабинет на официальном сайте SAT. При регистрации вы должны указать личные данные, выбрать место и дату тестирования и оплатить стоимость прохождения SAT. Регистрация заканчивается примерно за месяц до даты проведения экзамена.
Зарегистрироваться на экзамен в тестовом центре или после даты завершения регистрации нельзя.
Сколько стоит тестирование SAT?
Стоимость тестирования может отличаться в разных странах. В настоящее время в тестовых центрах на территории России стоимость SAT (одна попытка) составляет $96.50 (экзамен без сочинения) и $111.50 (экзамен с сочинением).
Сколько длится курс подготовки?
Продолжительность курса подготовки зависит от трех факторов:

Приведем пример оценки времени подготовки, используя эти факторы. Допустим, ученик хорошо знает математику в рамках школьной программы. Ученик готов заниматься три раза в неделю. В этом случае время подготовки может составить шесть-восемь месяцев.
