Про Toefl уже много было сказано на сайте, но я склоняюсь к мысли, что только тот человек, который на собственной шкуре перенёс всю силу этого жестокого теста, может рассказать, как правильно готовится к нему. Поэтому, люди отзовитесь!!! Расскажите нам о вашем собственном опыте.
К счастью или, к сожалению, я не сдавал тест, но лексика экзамена Toefl меня удивила своей разнообразностью и уникальностью. В принципе, я знаю, что много людей ищут слова к Toefl, и уже нечто похожее я создавал на сайте, но вот, наверное, не все были довольны, так как некоторый перевод был в английском варианте (что очень полезно при изучении) и не было подборки, которая включала бы большое количество слов.
Иногда хочется закинуть один словарь в телефон и просто изучать его, но когда в словаре 20 слов, то интерес не будет слишком велик. А вот когда почти 1500 слов, да еще и к Toefl, то после изучения у вас будет чувство гордости за себя (ну, это записки из собственного опыта). Безусловно, что-то пройдет мимо ушей, что-то вы забудете, но поверьте, забыть всё после изучения по технологии Lingvo Tutor – нереально. Зато вы будете знать правильное правописание, и много слов перейдет в ваш пассивный словарный запас, что также неплохо. Ведь знать примерный перевод это лучше, чем не знать вообще.
Сколько нужно знать слов, чтобы сдать тест Toefl?
Вопрос, наверное, самый популярный, но дать точный ответ не посмеет никто. Всё зависит от вашей смекалки, от того, как вы можете находить выход из логических ситуаций. Знание истории языка – вот один из главных ответов на этот вопрос. На сайте уже есть хорошая методика, которая заключается в понимании корней, суффиксов и префиксов слов. Поэтому, нужно попробовать разобраться в этом, прежде чем переходить к изучению, но, естественно, все зависит от вас, от вашего желания действовать (мой любимый афоризм).
Существует огромное количество классификаций лексики Toefl, но слова, по большому счёту, повторяются. Я это заметил, так как пришлось много сделать обзоров всех этих списков, поэтому я представляю свой список слов, который, на мой взгляд, намного лучше от других и я постараюсь объяснить почему:
- мой список с русским переводом (просто в сети есть много слов с английским переводом, и просто много слов кToefl подаются без перевода вообще);
- в моем списке есть примеры;
- есть идиоматические фразы с изучаемыми словами, например artificial — искусственный, ненатуральный, неестественный, после этого идет идиоматическое выражение artificial atmosphere — кондиционированный воздух, перевод которого очень часто не совпадает с вашими домыслами (но в этом случае, возможно догадаться).
- если же вы изучаете с помощью программы Lingvo Tutor, то у вас будет еще и правильное произношение (правда некоторые слова не озвучены).
Думаю, эта подборка слов будет популярна среди изучающих. И еще, в карточке для тьютора 1400 слов, а в заголовке 1500, куда пропали 100 слов? Я просто удалил те, которые повторяются. Надеюсь, я вас не обманул :).
Если есть люди, которые просто желают посмотреть на этот word list of top toefl words, я распаковал словарик в excel документ. Там вы увидите много повторений одних и тех же слов, но это не совсем так, ведь перевод совсем другой. Это говорит о том, что английский – это аналитический язык!

Why Is Studying Vocabulary Important for the TOEFL Exam?
Just accept this fact now: The TOEFL will contain at least some words that you don’t know.
So, why study vocabulary?
Here’s why: As you study vocabulary words, each word will slowly become part of your working language. Think of this like a toolbox. Each word that you add becomes another tool that you can use for any task at hand.
Whether you are working on the TOEFL reading test, the TOEFL writing tasks, or just having a conversation with a neighbor, you have a toolbox of awesome words to choose from.
How to Study Vocabulary Words
First, know that it will take time (and many study sessions!) for these vocabulary words to become part of your English toolbox. Our goal is not for you to memorize each word, but to be able to recognize and use it in context (or, when it is around other words, like on the TOEFL test).
To do this, we have to study the word in context. Here’s an example, using the word “deli.”
Max couldn’t wait for his class to end, because he was so hungry! He quickly packed up his books, said goodbye to his teacher and walked across the street to the deli. He ordered a turkey sandwich and chips, paid the cashier, and sat down to enjoy his lunch.
Can you guess what a deli is?
Even if you’ve never looked it up in a dictionary, I’d bet you can guess that it’s a place that sells sandwiches. Now, let’s look at the definition:
Deli (noun): food typically sold at a delicatessen, such as cold cuts, salads and pickles.
Pretty close, right? And even better, by studying the word in context, you can quickly add “deli” to the toolbox of words that you can use.
Here are few things you can do to study vocabulary words in context:
- Create sentences with the vocabulary word. Remember, these should be fun and personal for you! Don’t be afraid to be silly or to tell a story. An in-context sentence will look like this, “The penguins hated the zoo. So, they planned their escape” instead of “The man escaped.”
