1. as newly designed recreational zones

2. though the park used to be one

3. who enjoys cultural events and shows

4. as a true centre of city life

5. as this park in the world at the time

6. and is attended by more than

7. who like fun and entertainment

Разбираем букву A:

Gorky Park is once again one of the most popular walking and leisure places for Muscovites and it’s really busy on weekends. It’s definitely one of the must-see sights of Moscow and locals would definitely recommend you visit it at least once. So what to do once you’re in Gorky Park?

1. Walk with a view

Gorky park in moscow is one of the best recreational places ответы егэ

Of course, walking is the main thing to do in any park. Gorky Park offers free entrance 24/7, which, by the way, is a disabled friendly space. The territory of the park is huge and combines several “mini-parks” inside along with a long walking path that lets you follow the Moskva River (just like in Scorpions’ song!) and enjoy the river views and tour boats. At the same time, you can head deeper inside the park and take a stroll along its multiple paths.

And if you are ready for a longer walk to improve those results on your step tracker — take a stroll along the river from Muzeon Park through Gorky Park, and then Neskuchny Sad (literally “Not Boring Garden”), finishing at Vorobyovy Gory (“Sparrow Hills”). By the way, don’t worry about having to turn back after a long walk, because there are metro stations on either side of the park: ‘Park Kultury’ or ‘Okrtyabrskaya’ at one end and ‘Vorobyovy Gory’ at the other.

2. Use free WI-FI

Komsomolskaya Pravda/Global Look Press

Moscow nowadays is more and more reminiscent of a city of the future, as it has every imaginable service working 24/7, an app for everything you could need, and free WI-FI just about everywhere, including Gorky Park.

So why not take advantage of it by downloading an audio guide explaining you the history of Gorky Park during WWII, for instance, and add some additional educational value to your walk!

3. Rent a bike or do other sports

Gorky park in moscow is one of the best recreational places ответы егэ

There is a long bike track that stretches along the Moskva River within Gorky Park and beyond. You can rent a bike, longboard, skateboard (or even a children’s buggy). You can download a handy cycle audio guide that can help you explore the territory better, with interesting facts about ponds, museums and the park’s many other attractions.

Gorky Park also offers lots of opportunities for other sports. There is an official Nike base that frequently arranges running clubs and workouts. There are also several playgrounds for football, basketball, as well as an extreme skate park.

Surprisingly or not, you can also play petanque (boules) in Gorky Park. This game popular among retired French people became popular among hipsters, thanks to the former ‘La Boule’ cafe that set up a few lanes back in 2011 (another cafe has since opened at the same place called Cochonnet — Petanque & Fun Cafe).

4. Eat

Gorky park in moscow is one of the best recreational places ответы егэ

Gorky Park these days has loads of food venues for any taste, from historical Soviet ice cream to modern street food, as well as plenty of sitdown restaurants. Try Greek Gyros, Vietnamiese ‘Bo’ street food, or just grab a coffee and croissant to go anywhere.

If you’d like to have dinner, choose a place with a view near one of the park’s ponds. You can find a grill restaurant called ‘Zharovnya’ next to the main entrance and Pioneer Pond or one of the many nice restaurants next to Golitsyn Pond: ‘Ostrovok’, ‘Pizzamento’, ‘Lebedinoye Ozero’ (literally “Swan Lake”) and others.

5. Explore Russian & Soviet history

Gorky park in moscow is one of the best recreational places ответы егэ

Gorky Park’s full title is ‘Central Park of Culture and Leisure named after Maksim Gorky’. It opened in 1928 and since 1932 has been named after the famous Soviet writer Maxim Gorky. The place was considered to be the main leisure area for citizens of the capital, and so, was arguably designed by the best architects. One just has to take a look at the magnificent entrance arch! (inside it you can find the Museum of Gorky Park history, while on top is an observation deck).

These days, it’s a modern and stylish park (reconstructed in 2011), but little interesting pockets of Soviet past can be found everywhere still. The park offers guided historical tours and other similar types of so-called “edutainment”. (check the events schedule on the park’s website). If you head over to the adjacent park — Muzeon Park, you’ll find some nice sightseeing there — even a cemetery of old Soviet statues and busts, including ones of Lenin and Stalin, that were “sent to exile” here after the USSR collapsed.

6. Entertain your kids

Gorky park in moscow is one of the best recreational places ответы егэ

Gorky Park has always been a family-friendly park and a favorite place for kids of all ages. You can find a lot of entertainment for kids near Pioneer Pond, including a nice carousel and a recently opened  playground. It is an entire mini-world, a cross between a jungle and an aqua park. There are lots of slides and monkey bars, where kids can climb and have fun on, including the ‘Mega swings’: 29 swings that rotate and move all the possible ways and display an awesome night light show.

7. Explore contemporary art

Gorky park in moscow is one of the best recreational places ответы егэ

The park hosts the ‘Garage Museum for Contemporary Art’, which is probably the main and most famous institution of its type and founded back in 2008. It hosts large exhibitions of the world’s and Russia’s most interesting artists and runs a big educational program.

The museum’s building also deserves your attention. It currently looks like a modern  polycarbonate construction. However, it was once an abandoned Soviet restaurant, which was reconstructed and redesigned by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, who preserved original Soviet elements, such as some mosaics — which you can explore once inside. (You can also find a nice restaurant in the museum)

8. Go to the movies

Gorky park in moscow is one of the best recreational places ответы егэ

In summer, Gorky Park has an open air cinema called ‘Pioneer’, which screens a lot of movies — from mainstream to art house. Some movies also have English subtitles. Check the schedule and book tickets in advance here.

Garage museum also has its own cinema called ‘Garage Screen’, which screens a wide range of films and documentaries devoted to art and hosts lectures from a variety of interesting speakers. Check the schedule here.

9. Rent a boat

Konstantin Kokoshkin/Global Look Press

Though you might have to stand in a long line to get a boat on weekends, it’s nice to be able to paddle a little in nature, while being in the middle of a megapolis! Both park’s ponds, Golitsyn (a bigger one) and Pioneer, offer boats and catamarans for rent at affordable prices (check them here).

10. Skate the ice rink

Gorky park in moscow is one of the best recreational places ответы егэ

In winter, Gorky Park transforms into a wonderland with one of the most gorgeous ice skating rinks in the city. You can enjoy the additional music, New Year festive atmosphere — and mulled wine (just not on the ice!). There are also plenty of ice skate rental points and very comfortable and warm changing rooms.

Check the ice skating rules here.

2

Gorky Park in Moscow The Central Park of Rest and Culture Named After M. Gorky. It is one of the most famous places in Moscow. This was the first park of its kind, which became the prototype for hundreds of others in the Soviet Union.

3

It was founded in 1928 on the territory, equipped five years earlier for the first All-Russian Exhibition of Agriculture. The main architect was A. Vlasov.

4

The park stretches along the banks of the Moscow River, and is divided into two parts. The first was made for children interests or those trying to entertain them, as it has rides and rollercoasters.

5

You can also hire boats or bicycles, and there are sport clubs with tennis courts and sports ground on the street.

6

In winter, the whole area becomes a very big skating rink with skate hire. In summer, the «beach» area is very popular with sun-worshipper.

7

The other half of the park consists of formal gardens and woodland that has Golitsynskiy and Neskuchniy Gardens.

8

There are old buildings dating from the late 18th and early 19th Centuries, including two summerhouses by the great Moscow architect Mikhail Kazakov, and the first City Hospital. Nearby is the enormous Green Theater, an outdoor amphitheater that hosts various plays and concerts in the summer months.

Moscow Gorky park is one of the best recreational places in the city. Especially it attracts those who like fun and attractions. However, the people who like calmness can sail the boat or catamaran or take a walk to Neskuchny sad (“Not boring Garden”) nearby. Here you can always find a quiet place.

The Central Park of Culture and Recreation of Gorky is situated on an area of 109 ha and splits into two parts: the ground part and Neskuchny Garden.

The first recreational park of Russia was opened on the 12th of August 1928. There were exhibition pavilions and culture pavilions, tennis baskets and decorative pool, attractions, and Kids town. There was no such place as this park in the world at that moment.

The park was given the name of famous soviet writer Aleksey Gorky in 1932. Since then it is called Gorky Park.

Nowadays Gorky Park is the central park of Moscow and is attended by more than 20 thousand people on weekdays and more than 100 thousand on weekends and holidays. Since 2011 Gorky Park became the first world quality amusement park in Russia with space for rest, sport, dancing, and games outside. Free entrance, wi-fi coverage, newly designed recreational zones. All of this made Gorky Park a true center of city life, the point of attraction for youth and families.

Unusual tourist attractions

The Kremlin is always the first thing to see in Moscow. Earlier, there was only one route available for visitors to the Kremlin. It includes __visiting the museums of the inner area__ with the entrance to Alexandrovsky Garden. Since the end of 2016, tourists have another option to access the Kremlin. The starting point is at Spasskaya Tower in Red Square. The new route features archaeological discoveries, displaying the basements of the demolished monasteries, __dating back to the 14th and 16th centuries__, as well as the Maly Nikolaevsky Royal Palace.

Boat cruises are very popular in Moscow, __and river transportation season never stops__. Many enclosed and heated boats with panoramic windows and ice-breaking equipment can be found on the Moscow River. On their way tourists will see the city sights such as Stalin’s skyscrapers and the Kremlin.

For the last five years a lot of Moscow streets have become pedestrian zones. The city authorities ordered the construction of cosy European-style promenades with street lamps, benches and flower beds, __which were designed for everyone to enjoy__.

Russians are the greatest fans of winter, __which is from the end of November__ to the beginning of March. One of the main Muscovites’ leisure activities is skating at popular public places like Red Square, Gorky Park and VDNKh, __where the Europe’s biggest skating-rink is located__. At the end of 2016 the new skating-rink started operating on the roof of Moscow City’s 85-floor OKO tower at a height of 354 metres. The view is breathtaking.

4. Eat

9. Rent a boat

Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure (Russian: Центральный парк культуры и отдыха (ЦПКиО) имени Горького, tr. Tsentralny park kultury i otdykha imeni Gorkogo, IPA: [tsɨnˈtralʲnɨj ˈpark kʊlʲˈturɨ i ˈodːɨxə ˈimʲɪnʲɪ ˈɡorʲkəvɐ]) is a central park in Moscow, named after Maxim Gorky. In August 2018, the Park’s 90th anniversary was celebrated.[2]

History[edit]

Pond in Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure, 1982

Gorky Park, located at Krymsky Val and situated just across the Moskva River from Park Kultury Metro station, opened in 1928. The park followed the plan of Konstantin Melnikov, a widely known Soviet avant-garde and constructivist architect, and amalgamated the extensive gardens of the old Golitsyn Hospital [ru] and of the Neskuchny Palace, covering an area of 300 acres (120 ha) along the river.[3] The history of the Neskuchny Garden can be traced back to 1753, when it emerged in the area between Kaluzhskaya Zastava and Trubetskoy Moskva river-side estate. The neighboring area to Neskuchny Garden, from Krymsky Val to Neskuchny Garden, received little attention right up until the 1920s. Initially it was covered with park gardens, meadows and vegetable gardens belonging to the owners of neighboring estates. It formed a wasteland by the end of the 19th century, and served as a waste heap.

The First All-Russian Agricultural and Handicraft Industries Exhibition opened in 1923 on a former rubbish dump in Moscow.[4] The area had been cleared during the course of communist community work days. A resolution for the exhibition was passed[by whom?] on 19 October 1922 and the exhibition opened one and a half years later on 19 May 1923. After bidding for the exhibition’s layout plan, which proposed four arrangements—Sokol, Khodynskoye Pole, Petrovsko-Razumovsky park and the river areas near Krymsky bridge—preference was given to the last option.

On 15 March 1928 by a resolution of the Presidium of the Moscow Council, the Agricultural and Handicraft Industries Exhibition was enlarged and transformed into the Central Park of Culture and Leisure—the country’s first park of its kind, which was referred to as an outdoor «cultural enterprise». In 1932 the park was named after M. A. Gorky. The idea of a need for a central park of culture and leisure in Moscow arose in the late 1920s in relation to Moscow’s reconstruction with notions of a socialist «city of the future». The park was named after the writer and political activist Maxim Gorky.[5]

Transformation[edit]

Gorky Park Roller Coaster (removed in 2011)

In 2011 Gorky Park underwent a major reconstruction. New director of Central Park of Culture and Leisure Sergei Kapkov demolished approximately 100 attractions and illegal objects. More than two thousand square meters of new asphalt roadbed was laid on the site of demolished objects and 1.9 ha of new lawns and flowerbeds were laid out.[6][7] All amusement rides but one, a two deck carousel, have been removed in order to transform the place into a recreational zone.[8] Abandoned buildings, carts, tents, advertising structures and attractions were cleaned in the process. Renovation of monuments, cleaning the ponds and delivering soil and grass turf was started. Gorky Park was transformed in several months, becoming the first Russian park that could now compete with the leading parks of the world. A 15,000 square meter ice rink, with separate zones for children, hockey, dancing, and general skating, was officially opened in December 2011.[9] In winter, a skating school of Alexei Yagudin runs on the skating rink.[10][11][12]

Shortly after he took over the park, Sergei Kapkov was appointed to the role of Moscow Government Minister and Head of the Department of Cultural Heritage. Olga Zakharova has since replaced Sergei Kapkov and has held the position ever since.[3][failed verification]
