My Childhood |
In my opinion, childhood should be the happiest time in every person’s life. My childhood was happy and memorable. I remember almost every event from that time. Sometimes I wish I could turn back the time and stay there a little but more. It was the world of fairy-tales and magic. |
My parents did their best to make me feel happy. My dad would always take me to the Amusement Park, buy me sweets and ice-cream. My mum used to read me bedtime stories and play different games with me. At that time we lived with my grandparents. They also spent lots of time with me. My grandpa, for example, took me once fishing with him. That was fun. My grandma cooked amazing dishes. I especially liked her ginger cookies. |
As we lived in a large two-storey house with a garden, we kept a lot of domestic animals. We had a large German shepherd, two cats, a parrot and lots of chicken. As far as I remember, the parrot was the funniest of all. It could copy everything that was said around and it certainly sounded funny. |
Our garden was always full of flowers in spring and summer time. We also had some apple and cherry trees. |
A little later, when I turned four, my brother was born. I liked him very much and helped my mother in every way. I played with him, fed him, sang songs for him. I was quite happy. From now on we took him everywhere with us. We often went for a walk in the nearest park or visited our relatives. |
It was a magic time full of surprises and presents. One Christmas Santa brought me a sewing machine of my dreams and a toy car for my brother. I think this moment will stay forever in my memory. |

SWEET MEMORIES OF MY CHILDHOOD
Sweet are the memories of my childhood days. These memories fill my heart with joy. I still remember those wonderful days. I look back; I recollect the love and affection of my parents and younger brother.
I still remember the bed time stories which my grand mother and my father told me they told me the stories of “Akbar and Birbal”, “God’s Miracles” etc. some time they explained the rules of society at that time my mother was very much angry on them. And asked them why did you put much burden of society’s rules on her? She is a very small girl. Let her live freely in her childhood. At that time I became sad, because my mother quarreled with them. After that my father told me the study of the fairy tales” because he always wanted to see me happy.
I love my Papa
My mother was my first teacher. She taught me the ABCD and numbers. While she working in the kitchen, she gave me spoons and glasses to count. That was my first lesson in simple arithmetic.
I remember the day when I first went to school. I was just four years old. I entered in the classroom, I saw all the students staring at me. I thought, some of them were making fun of me. I was very nervous. I sat alone on a bench in the middle of the classroom. I did not like to sit in the class therefore I went out of the class. And I sat under a tree in the playground and waited for my mother to take me home. I was a good student. I always stood first in my class. But I was more interested in drawing and other activities than learning lessons.
What a lovely time it was! I passed my days in care free manner. No worries tensions but just fun, joy, happiness and laughter.

St.Paul’s School
I also A32 _______ going to St. Paul’s School at the age of eleven.
- review
- remind
- remember
- repeat
- remind smb about smth — напоминать о чем-то
- remind smb to do smth — напоминать кому-то сделать что-то
At my prep school I was top in almost every subject without having to do much more than any other child, and A33 _______ I was called “swot” or “swotty”, it never worried me.
- however
- although
- therefore
- nevertheless
At St. Paul’s there turned A24 _______ to be several boys who were clever, but none of them could touch me when it came to maths.
- over
- off
- in
- out
Ответ: out
I couldn’t wait for the next algebraic equation, a further geometric puzzle or the challenge of solving an arithmetic test in my head while others in the form sucked their pencils as they A35 _______ pages of figures.
- reflected
- thought
- considered
- judged
I couldn’t wait for the next algebraic equation, a further geometric puzzle or the challenge of solving an arithmetic test in my head while others in the form sucked their pencils as they A35 _______ pages of figures.
…but my form master A36 _______ none of this was important because I was obviously going to be a mathematician for the rest of my life.
- spoke
- said
- talked
- told
Ответ: said
Mum had gone to London University, but she A37 _______ had to work to keep Dad “in the style to which he’d become accustomed.”
- still
- even
- just
- so
still — все еще
even — даже
so — так, поэтому
Mum had gone to London University, but she A37 _______ had to work to keep Dad “in the style to which he’d become accustomed.”
Ответ: still
Or that’s what I A38 _______ to hear Mum telling him at breakfast from time to time.
- held
- used
- kept
- made
Ответ: used

Speaker A. They say I look as sweet as a piece of candy on my prom night. And why shouldn’t I? My dress was actually made from thousands of bright multicolored starburst candy wrappers. 18 thousands to be exact. In case you are wondering how I got all those wrappers to make the dress I didn’t eat all those starburst candies myself of course. My friends and family were very kind and consider it and they helped me to collect the wrappers over the past year.
Speaker B. Oh my god. The memories of raspberry hard candy. That’s something, believe me. My grandmother always, just always had them around at home. I love them more than anything. I would sell my soul for one. You flavor it slowly until you get closer to that soft center and then crash it to the roofer of your mouth. The goosy soft center gooses out with the most delightful and delicious burst of raspberry. Whoever invented those candies, he was a genius.
Speaker C. My favorite cookies to make are cinnamon doodles because I just love the smell of them baking. The sense of smell is powerful and when my kids smell cinnamon they feel warm and fuzzy all over, because of the fun we have on the kitchen. But you might be surprise by the known that cinnamon is one of the first treat spices and in fact it’s even mentioned in the Bible. It was used to make holly and anointed oil for church.
Speaker D. My first love what comes after chocolate, of course, was Godiva. When I was a student I had a part time job in New York and every weekend the minute I’ve got paid I would go to a little boutique and buy a small box of the most delicious godiva sweets in the shape of the half walnut with a half of walnut on top. The box was 14 dollars then and it was worth every penny. I could eat them all till the end of the afternoon and then dream about the next box.
Speaker E. Wedding decorations create that special atmosphere you are looking for at your reception and can include anything you want. The choice is really endless when it comes to varies materials and colors. For those young in heart sweets can be used. They could be added into vases or bowls, either individually or to a one massive bowl in the middle. For romantic souls a bouquet of chocolate lollypops can be made in one large vase or in individual glasses.
Speaker F. I wouldn’t have remembered this except the time I was walking around waiting for a friend and had a hungry for candy. I thought: surely there must be a candy store around here somewhere, right? And then I saw this place. It was unreal. A awesome retro candy, combined with fashion, cloves and jewelry. I wouldn’t buy any closings there because of the high price, I was more interested in the candies thou and there was lots of it.

Though terribly shy, I had a blissful childhood. Furthermore, I may be an only child but I was surrounded with people my age because I spent the first five years of my life at my mother’s hometown in a rural fishing community where my cousins were as teeming as fish in the sea. My mother has twelve siblings; she was the youngest. All her siblings had three to eight children. Imagine how many cousins I have! I would not be lying if I claim that almost everyone in our village is a close relative! The sweet memories of my childhood are happily filled with beach combing, fishing, and regular family occasions.
With my aunt Esther and her child, my cousin, Eve, we would scour the beach to look for colorful seashells, stones, and every other trinket we can find. Eve and I were both years old when we started our daily beach walking sessions. After an early breakfast at 6am, we would walk until 9 am at the beach, combing the sand and keeping our hands busy. I was the luckiest of us all and usually found beautiful things, such as bracelets, rings, and little toys. One time, I found a bronze fish, as small as my little finger. Ecstatic, I named it Iza, my lucky charm. I would play with it whenever my cousins were not around. I imagined riding Iza and she would fly. We went to mountains and clouds together, locating and killing monsters along the way. Iza and I were unstoppable! Hunting for knick knacks and playing with my toys and cousins were part of my regular childhood routine.
Fishing was something I looked forward to which happened every Saturday. My Uncle Jerome and Uncle Edward would take us with them and go at the middle of the ocean. They had a big boat that could carry five adults and five children. The name of our boat was “Hope” which had a sky-blue color. Eve, Arnie, and I were frequently the youngest people in it. My uncles would find a good spot in the ocean, and then dive and look for pearls. The first time I saw a pearl in a shell, I was amazed, my mouth hung and never closed for a long time! Exquisite in its whiteness, the pearl shone under the sun. I touched it a little, smooth and in my mind, felt creamy. I thought it was the loveliest milky item. Besides pearl hunting, my cousins and I would use fishing rods. I seldom caught fish and when I did, I loved the feeling of catching something we would eat as it felt independent and grown-up. Sometimes, my relatives would bring a net too and we would catch different fish with diverse colors- gold, white, and pink! We would roast and stew some of the fish and add the vegetables we brought along with us. They were the sweetest, best-tasting fish ever because of their freshness. I love these fishing expeditions!
Apart from fishing, we would spend many days with our numerous family occasions. Since we have a big clan, it was common to have at least one birthday once a week. In each event, we would bring gifts, but mostly, we had food with us, particularly grandmother’s purple yam cake, which is the most famous cake in our village. Relatives would request for her to make one for them but mostly she cooked it for birthday celebrants. Sometimes, two to three people would celebrate their birthdays in one day, so my grandmother and I would visit three houses in one day and bring them a cake each. Afterwards, we would go home with rounded bellies and heads full of stories.
My childhood gave me some of the best years of my life because I was with my family. I spent much time exploring the beach and the sea in addition to bonding with my relatives. In other words, I was physically and socially active. I was shy with strangers but with them, I felt serene and at home. If I would have children of my own, I will bring them to my town as well so they would be able to experience the happiness of a simple childhood in a quaint, fishing village where family love and nature are plentiful.
