Every year we have a week or two to relax during the celebration of New Year holidays. The schools don’t work and many companies also take a break. I’m glad there are several winter events to celebrate. First of all, it’s New Year, of course. We are planning to have a festive dinner and to invite our relatives over. Schoolchildren have winter holidays every year. They begin at the end of December and last for two weeks. I always look forward to this amazing time of the year, because I don’t have to get up early and go to school. Also, I have a chance to spend some time with my family and friends.

The most wonderful thing is that the atmosphere is filled with joy and magic. People decorate their homes, cook tasty food and buy presents for each other. My little sister and I really enjoy celebrating Christmas and New Year. Our grandparents come to celebrate with us. What I find really exciting is going out at night and watching fireworks, it makes me forget about everything.

Sometimes the weather is too cold to go out, so I prefer to stay at home and make a party for my friends. We exchange presents, watch films, play board games or just chat. But when it is not so cold, we take our skates and go to the park to play ice-hockey. We also play snowballs and make snowmen. After that, we go to a cafe to drink some tea and eat some cakes.

In the evening I read books, talk on the phone or help my parents to clean the house. I don’t have to get up early in the morning so I can go to bed later than usual.

I love the winter holidays because it is a great time to relax, see my friends and relatives.I feel a little sad when my winter holidays come to an end.

I am sure that all of us look forward to this time because it’s a great chance not to get up early and to do what we want. As for me I always sleep till 9 a.m. during my winter holidays. Hockey and skiing are my hobbies. We can even play snowballs and make funny snowmen.

In the evening my mother often asks me to help her about the house. My duty is washing up, watering plants and taking the rubbish out. As I don’t have to get up early during my holidays my parents allow me to watch TV and read books till midnight.

I enjoy my winter holidays. It’s a nice time to relax and take a short rest from my studies. It’s a pity that winter holidays always pass so quickly.

How I Spent Winter Holidays

All schoolchildren look forward to having long holidays and I’m no exception. My favourite holidays are in summer and winter. Perhaps, winter holidays are even better, because it’s also the time for Christmas and New Year celebrations. Everyone is in cheerful mood, houses and stores in the streets are richly decorated and you get to receive lots of presents.
My winter holidays have started almost a week before the New Year. I didn’t have to attend school and I could sleep long hours. On the New Year Eve my parents decided we should visit our relatives in Voronezh, so we went there. It took approximately five hours by train.
My aunt and uncle were happy to see us. They were getting ready for New Year dinner and my mum decided to help them. Meanwhile, me and my dad went shopping for presents and some decorations. Aunt Alice’s house has already been nicely decorated and had two Christmas tree. One was inside the house and one outside. Nevertheless, my dad decided to buy some more colourful toys, postcards and tinsel. When we returned, dinner was ready and everybody was waiting for us. It was a wonderful day. I got to play with my cousins and their friends.
We spent three more days in Voronezh. After such a joyful trip it seemed to be boring at home. However, I wanted to spend my holidays usefully. Luckily, this winter was snowy and I could go skiing with some friends. Our teacher of literature has set special homework before the holidays, so I had to find some time to read books. Soon it was time to get back to school.

My winter vacation passed wonderfully. This year heavy snow covered the ground, so there was no time to get bored. Together with friends we drove in a sleigh, made snowmen, played snowballs and just had fun. In the evening I watched TV, talked on the phone with friends and occasionally played on the computer.
The second week my family took me to a winter resort. I don’t ski very well, so it was hard in the beginning to learn how to ski down mountain slopes. But the next day, I learned to keep balance and fell to the ground only a few times. At a ski resort we spent 4 days. During this period I managed to make friends and girlfriends, with whom now I keep in touch and correspond through the internet. We hope to see one another again at the same place next year.
By the end of winter break my spirits fell. Suddenly it came in on me that I had not done some homework. But still there were a couple of days left, and I had time to do the tasks before the beginning of classes. How quickly vacations end! And how long a school year lasts!

Но уже на следующий день я научился держать баланс и упал на землю только несколько раз. На лыжном курорте мы пробыли 4 дня.
