Монолог “Keeping fit”

Задание
You are going to give a talk about keeping fit. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes. Remember to say:
· why a healthy lifestyle is more popular nowadays;
· what you do to keep fit;
· what sports activities are popular with teenagers in your region.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, now I’m going to give a talk about keeping fit and healthy lifestyle.

Healthy lifestyle is becoming more and more popular nowadays. There is a number of reasons for that but the most important reason is that people live under the press of different problems, such as social, ecological, economic and others. A person should be strong and healthy in order to overcome all difficulties. Healthy lifestyle helps people do that.

As for me, I try to keep fit in different ways. First of all, I do my morning exercises every day. In addition to it, I go to the swimming pool once or sometimes twice a week. Also, I stay away from bad habits, because I’m convinced that cigarettes, alcohol and drugs destroy both body and brain.

Well, as to other teenagers of my region, I should say that they are interested in different sports activities. They often play football and other active games on sports grounds, go to gyms and swimming pools. Besides, more and more young men become interested in martial arts, such as karate, boxing, kickboxing, judo and so on.

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasise the fact that healthy lifestyle is a “must” for modern people.

Монолог “My school”

You are going to give a talk about your school. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes. Remember to say:

· what weekday you find the most difficult, and why;
· what you would like to change in your school life.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, now I’m going to give a talk about my school.

To begin with, I’d like to say that my shool is one of the biggest schools in my city, where more than one thousand pupils get their education.

I like my school very much, but it is my classmates that I like best of all. We are all good friends and get on well with each other. We spend much time together doing sports, playing active games and so on.

As for weekdays, I find Monday the most difficult one because we have six lessons on this day, including Mathematics and Physics. Frankly speaking, I’m not good at these subjects, and I don’t enjoy these lessons.

In my opinion, much can be changed and improved in my school. For example, PE lessons. I’d like them to be more diverse. As a rule, we play volleyball and basketball at the lessons, or simply run on the stadium. It would be better if we had a chance to work out with weights and play games that are more interesting .

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasise the fact that school education is very important for teenagers and should help them build character and develop mind.

Well, now I’m going to give a talk about my school.

To begin with, I’d like to say that my shool is one of the biggest schools in my city, where more than one thousand pupils get their education.

As far as my typical school day concerned, I should say it is very busy. It usually starts at 8 o’clock in the morning and comes to an end at 2 or 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Every day we have 6 and sometimes 7 lessons. We also have breaks, but they are not very long.

As I have just mentioned, my typical school day involves a number of lessons. Russian, Literature, and Mathematics are the most frequent ones. As a rule, we do a lot of work at these lessons: learn rules, do exercises and tests, write essays, make reports, and so on.

My favourite subject is English. I have been learning it since the 2nd form and I hope to relate my life to it. Chances are good that I will be an interpreter. If not, I can always go to school and be an English teacher.

I like a lot in my school but it is my classmates that I like most. We are all good friends and get on well with each other. We spend much time together doing sports, playing active games, going to the cinema.

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasise the fact that school education is very important for teenagers and should help them build character and develop mind.

Примерный ответ (на примере г. Кемерово)
Well, I am going to give a talk about my city.

To begin with, I’d like to say that the name of my city is Kemerovo. This is the capital of Kuzbass, the main coal region of Siberia.

In the first place, Kemerovo is famous for its coal producers and chemical industry. Coal mined here is consumed in this country and exported abroad. In addition to coal, different chemicals are produced here. The products of a gigantic plant Azot are in great demand all over the country.

As to me, I like my city very much, because it has lots of beautiful places where you can rest and relax. The embankment of the river Tom is my favourite place in Kemerovo. Here you can sit quietly on the banks and admire wonderful nature. The embankment is also a good place where you can walk alone or with your friends.

Frankly speaking, I haven’t yet decided what to do after leaving school. It depends on many factors. More likely than not, I will stay in my city, because I have all the opportunities to get good education here. I just have no reason of moving to another region. But as the saying is, time will tell.

In conclusion, I’d like to invite everyone to visit Kemerovo and enjoy this city.

Монолог “Foreign languages”

Задание
You are going to give a talk about foreign languages. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· why lots of people learn foreign languages nowadays;
· why you have chosen to do the English exam this year;
· what you did to prepare for your English exam.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
To begin with, I’d like to say that more and more people learn foreign languages nowadays. They do it for a number of reasons. In the first place, people want to understand citizens of other countries and to be understood by them. In addition to it, travelling has become easier, and the Russians have a variety of opportunities for going abroad. If you are fluent in a foreign language, you feel more confident.

It goes without saying that English is established as the most important and popular language. As for me, I have been learning English for 5 years. And this year I have chosen to do the English exam. I regard this exam as a chance to test my language skills. I have always wanted to know my real speaking skills and find out my strengths and weaknesses.

I did much work to prepare for my English exam. First of all, I revised grammar. I learned a lot of rules and consolidated them in doing exercises. In addition to it, I read texts of various genres to enlarge my vocabulary. I also listened to a number of radio programmes and podcasts to make my listening better. And I also made efforts to improve my speaking. I used every chance to speak English at the lessons and at home.

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasize the fact that English is in great demand these days, so I recommend everybody to start learning it as soon as possible and commit to it.

Монолог “Pets”

Задание
You are going to give a talk about pets. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· why people keep pets;
· what pets are most popular in big cities;
· whether having pets is a big responsibility, and why.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, I am going to give a talk about pets.

To begin with, I’d like to say that nowadays more and more people keep pets in their houses: cats, dogs, parrots, hamsters, guinea pigs, and so on. They do it for a number of reasons. In the first place, people seek to make friends, and pets are a kind of friends they can make fast and easily. Besides, pets give positive emotions, that’s why people like to keep them. If you are under stress, you can just stroke your cat and feel somewhat relieved.

As to the most popular pets in big cities, I should say it depends. If you live in a big city, a cat or a small dog would be the best option. Firstly, they don’t need extensive space to live on. Secondly, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on buying pet food. If you live in the country, you can choose whatever you want. There is always plenty of room and food for any pet here.

Anyway, having pets is a big responsibility. Pets are animate objects, and if you don’t take good care of them, they may fall sick and even die.

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasise the fact that pets play an important part in our life and we should be aware of both pluses and minuses of keeping them.

Монолог “The Internet”

Remember to say:
· why using the Internet is so popular;
· how the Internet can help students in their studies;
· whether the Internet can be dangerous, and why.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
To begin with, I’d like to say that we live in the world of modern technologies. We are surrounded by lots of sophisticated gadgets: smartphones, iPhones, notebooks, netbooks, laptops. They are very useful because they have practically unlimited functionality. But it is the connection to the Internet that makes them useful to the max.

Today the Internet is exceedingly popular and used very much, especially by teenagers. They do it for a number of reasons. Firsty, they create their profiles on different social nets such as vkontakte, odnoklassniki, facebook, instagram and others. Young people like communicating with each other, and the social nets give them this opportunity. Secondly, the Internet is a depot of innumerable information, so teenagers use the internet as a source of answers for various questions. So, the Internet helps students in their studies. Whether they need to make a report or prepare for a test, they launch a browser, type in the request and get lots of pages according to the request.

Besides, the Internet makes long-distance communication easier. There are special programs for communcation of this kind. One of them is Skype, which is sure to be the most popular programm. You can see and hear the person whom you are talking to.

Frankly speaking, the Internet is not as safe as you wish it were. Firstly, the spread of information is uncontrolled on the Internet, so teenagers often run into dangerous pages containing information about selling drugs or committing a suicide. I strongly believe that this information must be banned.

In conlcusion I’d like to say that if you follow the safety rules when using the Internet you are not endangered, and you can use the Internet to your advantage as much as possible.

You are going to give a talk about public holidays in Russia. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· what public holidays are celebrated in Russia;
· what your favourite public holiday is, and why you like it;
· how your favourite public holiday is celebrated in your city, town or village.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, now I’m going to talk about holidays.

To begin with, holidays play an important part in our life. Holidays give us an opportunity to rest and relax, they also improve our mood and make us happier.

Our country has a number of (public) holidays. The most popular are New Year, the 8th of March (the women’s day), Spring and Labour Day, Victory Day, Russia Day, and others. All these holidays are very important for every citizen of the Russian Federation.

My favorite (public) holiday is New Year because this is a special occasion. It is not only an opportunity to relax but also to think about how you lived the past year and make plans for the next one. In addition to it, New Year is a reunion for the whole family of ours, so we always look forward to it.

My family established its own way of celebrating New Year. In the evening we visit our best friends who live next door and have some time together. Then, at midnight, we come back home and have our celebratory meal. We usually watch TV shows, listen to music, fool around, and, of course, give each other presents.

As for me, I like both giving presents and getting them. Both actions are very enjoying. But honestly speaking, I like getting presents more because now I don’t have enough money for giving them.

Staying at home with your family is not the only way to celebrate New Year. You can visit city celebrations which include fairs, contests, concerts, and fireworks. The culmination of the New Year celebration in our city is setting up fireworks. It is just awesome!

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasise the fact that every holiday is a great time, and I wish there were as many holidays as possible.

Монолог “Travelling”

Remember to say:
· why most people enjoy travelling;
· what people like doing while travelling;
· what place you would like to go to, and why.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Nowadays, people have a great variety to rest and relax: going to the cinema, playing sports, and so on. But the most popular option remains travelling.

People like travelling for a number of reasons. Firstly, travelling is a good way to focus away from work and study and, so to say, to recharge batteries. I mean people can replenish their inner supplies of energy and refresh emotions. Secondly, travelling is a good way to broaden the mind and gain knowledge. If you go to a foreign country, you can learn its customs and traditions, see the sights, make friends with local citizens.

While travelling, people like to do different things. It depends upon the place and purpose of your visit. If you travel to a resort town, you usually swim in the sea and bake in the sun. If you travel on business, you’re supposed to establish contacts, carry on talks, making contracts, and so on. If you travel for educational reasons, you attend lessons, go on excursions, gain knowledge and develop your skills.

In my opinion, summer is the best season for travelling. Most adults are on leave in this period and children have holidays, that’s why summer is the optimal time when you can start on a journey.

As to means of transport, each one has its pluses and minuses. If you travel by train, you can admire beautiful landscapes and you feel safe. But it takes more time to get to the destination. Travelling by plane saves time but deprives you the chance to enjoy the nature outside, and what is more, fills you with misgivings about the flight.

As to me, I have already travelled to many places, but my dream is to visit Tokyo. This is the place I would like to go to because it is one of the world leaders in business, culture, science and technology. Besides, I plan to learn Japanese in the future, so, visiting Japan can help me to do that.

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasize the fact that travelling plays an important part in our life and everybody should travel as much as possible.

Монолог “Career plans”

You are going to give a talk about your career plans. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· what job you want to do in the future;
· what two subjects you think are the most important for your future job, and why;
· whether your family approve of your career choice or not.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
All people have to work in order to make a living. It is very important that a person has a job according to his or her abilities and wishes.

As for me, I’d like to be an interpreter in the future. I like foreign languages very much, and, frankly speaking, I’m very good at them. Nowadays, I do my best to learn English and Spanish because they are the languages that are widely spoken and popular with lots of people.

I think that English and Geography are the most important subjects for my future job. They are two subjects that help me learn much about other countries, their customs and traditions. English and Geography also help me understand native people of other countries, respect their culture and communicate with them in the most effective way.

All the members of my family approve my career choice because they strongly believe that interpreting is an exciting and well-paid job. Frankly speaking, my family just want me to be happy and they support any decision of mine.

In conclusion, I’d like to emphasize the fact that every teenager shouldn’t procrastinate in deciding about his or her job because a successful career requires much time and efforts.

Монолог “Books”

Задание
You are going to give a talk about books. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· whether reading is still popular with teenagers, and why, or why not;
· what kind of books you like reading;
· why many people prefer e-books to paper books.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, I am going to give a talk about books.

To begin with, I’d like to say that there are a lot of ways to spend free time: doing sports, watching TV, going to the cinema, playing games, and so on. And, of course, you can just read a book.

Frankly speaking, reading books is losing its popularity with teenagers making way for more exciting activities, such as watching blockbusters in 3-D, playing computer games, social networking, arranging parties. If a teenager has to choose between reading a book and playing a brand new computer game, he or she will definitely show preference for the game. Modern games excel books in all aspects. Firstly, modern games make a tremendous visual impact. The game world looks extremely realistic. Secondly, when playing a game, you are not an outsider. You are an active insider participating in everything that happens in the game world.

As for me, I have to confess that I am not only a gamer, but also a regular reader. Yes, I like reading very much! Science fiction is my favourite kind of literature because it gives a different view of our reality. It doesn’t present our world as it is but as it could be. I think that science fiction is much deeper than, say, detective stories. The problems science fiction deals with are more global and serious.

If you take a closer look at reading people, you will notice that they usually read e-books. There is a number of reasons why many people prefer e-books to paper books. The main reason is that you can download unlimited e-books for free from the Internet. In addition to it, e-books are more comfortable to read. There is a variety of devices that can store e-books: computers, tablets, smartphones.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that modern world is full of exciting things like sports, TV, parties and so on. Nevertheless, books shouldn’t be forgotten.

Монолог “School homework”

Задание
You are going to give a talk about your school homework. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· how long it takes you to do your homework;
· what subject you usually start with, and why;
· whether schoolchildren should be given more or less homework, and why.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ

Well, I am going to give a talk about my school homework.

To begin with, I’d like to say that school homework is an essential part of school education. Almost everyone who goes to school is given hometasks.

As for me, duration of doing my homework depends on many factors. For example, our teachers of Literature and History are in the habit of giving a lot of homework, which involves reading many pages of textbooks, writing synopses, making presentations, and so on. If you are not ready with all this stuff, you get a bad mark. As I don’t want to get bad marks, I have to spend long hours to prepare for the lessons. It may take me 3 or even 4 hours to finish the school homework. But to tell the truth, there are teachers who spare pupils’ time and don’t give much work. They organize their lessons so that there is little left for home.

As to sequence of subjects, I usually start with Literature because this is the most voluminous subject including many works of fiction, critique, philosophy, and the like. I prefer to get rid of the most boring subject in the first place and then start doing something that is more interesting.

I strongly believe that schoolchildren should be given less homework. I don’t understand teachers who give their pupils too much homework and are sure that they do them good. Teachers should know that our brain can effectively process a limited amount of information. The rest of information vanishes into thin air. If you keep trying to remember everything you are given by teachers, you will most likely go crazy.

In conclusion, I’d like to appeal to teachers and make them remember their own school life. Teachers should never forget that they were pupils in the past and, like today’s young people, had difficulties with the homework.

Монолог “TV”

Задание
You are going to give a talk about TV. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· whether watching TV is still a popular pastime with teenagers, and why, or why not;
· how many hours a week you watch TV;
· what you dislike most about TV.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, I am going to give a talk about TV.

To begin with, I’d like to say that TV is one of the greatest inventions of all times. It is impossible to imagine days when people lived without TV.

In my opinion, watching TV is losing its popularity with teenagers. The reason is that teenagers prefer the Internet to TV. Not long ago, TV used to be the main source of information and entertainment. It is no longer the case. Now, if you want to know what is happening in the world, you launch a browser, do some clicks and get innumerable quantity of information. If you want to watch something entertaining, you don’t need TV. There are lots of youtube channels providing clips, shows, interviews with celebrities, and the like. You can start watching a video, pause it for any time and then start again. You can’t do the same trick with television.

As for me, I don’t watch TV very often. I usually do it when new episodes of my favourite serials appear. So, I watch TV approximately 3 of 4 hours a week. Sometimes it happens that there are no new episodes of my favourite serials, so I spend no time at all.

There are a lot of things I dislike about TV. But endless blocks of commercials drive me really crazy! It goes without saying that advertising gives money for producing new content, but there should be some limits to advertising.

In conclusion, I’d like to acknowledge great importance of television, but at the same time, I’d like to state the fact that TV gradually abandons its absolute position making way for the Internet.

Монолог “Free time”

Задание
You are going to give a talk about your free time. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· whether you have a lot of free time, and why, or why not;
· what you enjoy doing in your free time;
· what your Sunday afternoons are like.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, I am going to give a talk about my free time.

To begin with, I’d like to say that people have to work more and more in the modern world to make a career, earn a living, and become successful. This also holds true for teenagers, because they have to study a lot. So, both adults and teenagers don’t have much free time.

As for me, I don’t have much free time either, because I am faced with a number of important exams this year. As I don’t want to fail them, I make every effort to learn the necessary material. I read a lot of textbooks and additional articles, do innumerable exercises, attend preparation courses, and so on.

In spite of the fact that I have to work a lot, I try to find some time for recreation and fun. Frankly speaking, I enjoy doing many things in my free time. I like to take walks, come to see my friends, watch TV, surf the Internet, and so on. My favourite pastime is going to a swimming pool. I am keen on having a healthy lifestyle, and swimming helps me to keep fit.

As to my Sunday afternoons, I should confess that they are just for doing nothing active. I usually take my tablet, sink into the sofa, and watch videos on youtube or communicate in social nets. Sunday afternoons are the period when I don’t overload myself with activities, because I need to collect my strength for Monday, which is my busiest weekday.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that it is very important to not only have free time but also give it to your hobbies and interests.

Монолог “Weather and seasons”

You are going to give a talk about weather and seasons. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· which of the four seasons you like most, and why;
· how the Earth’s climate has changed recently;
· whether you trust the weather forecast, and why.
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, I am going to give a talk about weather and seasons.

To begin with, I’d like to say that there are four seasons in a year: winter, spring, summer, and autumn.

As for me, I like summer most of all, because this is the period when we have vacations. And vacations mean freedom. Absolutely! We have no need to get up early and be in a hurry to leave for school. It is not necessary to spend long hours doing school homework. The only thing we have to do in summer is relaxing to the max. In addition to it, the weather is awesome in summer! As a rule, it is warm and sunny.

By the way, the Earth’s climate has changed recently. If you take a closer look at what’s happening in the world, you see natural phenomena that never took place before. Melting arctic ice is one of numerous examples. It gradually fills the ocean with huge amounts of additional water that makes the water level higher and causes ecological disasters. In addition to it, mass media often give information about disastrous hurricanes and severe droughts that occur in unexpected time and place.

As to the weather forecast, I don’t trust it if it is given for the longer period of time. I don’t believe that man can predict what is going to be in a week or fortnight. Nevertheless, I think that the weather forecast for one or two days is most likely to be correct, and you should trust it.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that weather is an interesting subject, which is worth studying and paying attention to.

Монолог “Photography”

Задание
You are going to give a talk about photography. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes.
Remember to say:
· why people like taking pictures
· why taking photos is more popular today than it was in the past
· what the best photo you have ever taken is
You have to talk continuously.

Примерный ответ
Well, I am going to give a talk about photography.

To begin with, I’d like to say that people have always wanted beautiful moments of life to last forever. Photography helps them to make it happen.

People like taking pictures for a number of reasons. As I have just mentioned, people want to save beautiful moments of life forever. For example, while visiting an exotic country, you see lots of things that don’t exist in your own area. You never see a coconut tree in Siberia and heaps of snow somewhere in the south. Why not to take a picture? In addition to it, people take pictures not only for fun but also for fixing details of an occurrence. It is often the case when pictures help to investigate a crime.

It is really a fact that taking photos is more popular today than it was in the past. The main reason is that taking photos has become much easier today. You just take a smartphone, do a click and that’s it. It has also become easier to share photos with friends. You can upload it
on your profile in a social net and let everyone see it.

As for me, I like taking photos very much. Frankly speaking, I have many good photos, but the best one was taken last year in the Altai Mountains. My friends and I effected an ascent of a mountain and took a picture on the very top of it. The picture is just awesome! When I look at it, I admire wonderful nature and remember my friends.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that taking pictures is a never-ending hobby, which will carry away more and more people.

Удачи на экзамене!

  1. You are going to give a talk about your school.

— what your typical school day is like

— what your favourite subject is

— what you like most about your school

I would like to tell you a few words about my school. My typical school day usually starts at 8.30 am. We typically have 6 or 7 lessons a day. I usually have lunch after the fourth lesson. When all my lessons are over, I usually have one or two extra classes. We are getting ready to take our school-leaving exams.

My favourite school subject is English. Firstly because I think studying languages helps you improve your memory and makes your brain work better. Besides, I enjoy studying English. I like the way it sounds. I enjoy listening to songs and watching films in English.

There are a lot of things I like about my school. First, I really like my teachers. They are very understanding, helpful and are very good at explaining things. Besides. I like our school canteen. It is very comfortable, looks nice and the food is really tasty.

So, I am a lucky one as I really like my school and it is very important as we spend most of our day at school.

  1. You are going to give a talk about books.

— whether reading is still popular with teenagers, and why, or why not

— what kind of books you like reading

— why many people prefer e-books to paper books

I would like to tell you a few words about what I think about books and reading. To my mind, reading is not so popular nowadays as it was a couple of decades before. There are several reasons for this. First, teenagers now have far more ways to entertain themselves. We have an opportunity to play computer games, listen to countless number of songs and watch any films we like on the Internet.

As for me, I like reading very much. My favourite kind of books is adventure stories. I like adventure stories because they make my monotonous life more exciting and interesting, give me an opportunity to travel around the world.

Most people nowadays prefer e-books to paper ones, as paper books cost more and occupy a lot of place in your home. Some really huge paper books are too heavy to be taken with you. As for the e-book, you can take it with you wherever you go.

So, in conclusion, despite the fact that reading is not so popular nowadays, it continues to remain one of my favourite pastimes.

3. You are going to give a talk about your school homework

  • how long it takes you to do your homework

  • what subjects you usually start with and why

  • whether schoolchildren should be given more or less homework and why

I would like to tell you a few words about my school homework. It always takes me a great deal of time to prepare for all my lessons: usually about 4 hours or even more. I have to spend much more time on my homework in the ninth grade because I am getting ready to take my school-leaving exams in four subjects and I pay special attention to these subjects.

I usually start doing my homework with humanities as they are most tiresome for me. You have to read so much and to remember plenty of information. It is very difficult for me as I don’t have very good memory. So, if I put them off till the end of the day I am too tired to do them.

In my opinion, schoolchildren nowadays are too busy at school. We have more subjects than our parents did, we get more homework. So, we almost don’t have any free time to relax, to hang out with friends, to do sports and to to enjoy our hobbies. As a result, many of us have poor health, get tired very quickly and become nervous. And this may lead to worse marks at school. That is why, I believe, schoolchildren should be given less homework.

  1. about travelling.

— why most people enjoy travelling

— what people like doing while travelling

— what place you would like to go to and why

I would like to tell you a few words about travelling. I think most people enjoy travelling because it is a good way to relax and to experience new positive emotions. It gives you an opportunity to communicate with different people and get to know their lifestyles and traditions.

To my mind, most people enjoy sightseeing while on holiday. They like visiting places which are of great historical and cultural interest and learning about different architectural styles. Many people, especially women find great pleasure in shopping. For example, in Milan there are great sales in shops when you can buy brand clothes much cheaper than the same things in Moscow.

As for me, I would like to visit Japan. I am very interested in the customs and traditions of this country. This country seems another world to me. It is an Asian country and differs a lot from European countries and Russia as well. There is a kind of mystery in it I’d like to uncover.

I hope my dream will come true some day.

  1. You are going to give a talk about TV.

  • whether watching TV is still a popular pastime with teenagers, and why

  • how many hours a week you watch TV

  • what you dislike most about TV

I would like to tell you a few words about what I think of TV. I believe watching TV is very popular with teenagers nowadays. There are so many kinds of television now: ordinary, cable, satellite. There are hundreds of different channels where everyone can find something to his/her liking. I think numerous sitcoms and reality shows are the most favourite programmes among teenagers.

As for me, I don’t spend much time watching TV. It is usually one hour a day on week days and about three hours a day on Saturday and Sunday, that is about 11 hours a week. I cannot afford more as I am very busy preparing for my school-leaving exams. Besides, I don’t think watching much television is safe for your health.

I like watching TV in general. It helps you to relax after a hard day. But at the same time I believe there is too much violence on TV nowadays. There are plenty of thrillers with very violent murders. And they are often on during the day when children can watch them. It is very harmful for children’s psycho. They may get nervous or aggressive.

So, to my mind watching TV is a good pastime, but one should carefully choose what programmes to watch.

  1. about your free time.

-whether you have a lot of free time and why

— what you enjoy doing in your free time

-what your Sunday afternoons are like

I would like to tell you a few words about my free time. At the moment I am very busy preparing for my school-leaving exams and have one or two extra classes a day. That is why I can spare only a little time for my leisure activities.

One of my favourite pastimes is watching films. I really love going to the cinema. But unfortunately, we don’t have a cinema here in Morshansk. So we have to go to Tambov. It’s not very cheap. So, we don’t go there very often. But I often watch films on the Internet and TV. I prefer melodramas. Besides, I enjoy going to the discos at the weekends. I adore dancing and can dance for three to four hours at a stretch. Besides, I like spending time chatting with my friend. We have a lot in common with her and there are so many things to talk about!

Sunday is my only day off when I have neither lessons nor extra classes. So I try to get the most out of it. My best friend and I usually meet at noon at my or her place and make a home cinema for ourselves. We buy plenty of snacks beforehand and enjoy watching films on the Internet chewing something! After that we discuss the film and everything that happened to us during the week.

  1. about whether and seasons.

— which of the four seasons you like most

-how the earth’s climate has changed recently

— whether you trust the weather forecast and why

I would like to tell you a few words about weather and climate.

As for me, my favourite season is summer. Fist of all, we have our longest holidays in summer – three months of rest and relaxation! Second, there are so many things you can do in summer! The weather is hot and sunny. You can swim in the river, lie in the sun and get a beautiful tan. Besides, I try to keep fit and do sports. Summer is a good time for cycling. I enjoy cycling in the country when there is a lot of vegetation and birds singing around you.

As for the earth’s climate, it has changed a lot recently. They say the climate has become warmer and the average temperature has increased by about 1 degree. I am not sure if that is true. On one hand, we really don’t have such cold winters as before. On the other hand, summers are often not so warm now. But what I am absolutely sure about is weather has become very changeable. The temperature can fall or rise considerably overnight.

As for weather forecasts, I don’t trust them very much as they rarely come true nowadays. There were many cases they let me down. Maybe because weather has become unpredictable.

  1. About public holidays in Russia.

— what public holidays are celebrated in Russia

— what your favourite public holiday is and why

— how your favorite public holiday is celebrated in your town.

I would like to tell you a few words about public holidays in Russia. We celebrate the following public holidays: New Year’s Day, Defender of the Fatherland Day, Women Day, May Day, Victory Day and Independence day.

As for me, my favourite public holiday is New Year’s Day. First of all, because, we have ten days off devoted to the holiday. Besides, I like all the traditions connected with it: decorating the New Year’s tree, meeting Father Frost and Snow Maiden, setting off fireworks, exchanging presents and so on.

In the town Where I live celebrating New Year’s day usually starts at home with the family. Family members usually meet about an hour before the midnight and see the old year off. Then we see the new year in and while the clock on Spasskaya tower chimes twelve we make a wish. After that many of us go to the central square to watch a New Year’s show prepared by our local actors with dances, songs, different contests and presents from Father Frost and Snow Maiden. It is usually great fun!

  1. You are going to give a talk about keeping fit.

why a healthy lifestyle is more popular nowadays;

· what you do to keep fit;

· what sports activities are popular with teenagers in your region.

I would like to tell you a few words about healthy lifestyle.

I believe a healthy lifestyle has become more popular nowadays. First, people are more health-conscious thanks to mass media like TV or magazines. They promote healthy lifestyle by showing successful slim athletic people. There is also much information about healthy eating and keeping fit. Besides, people have more opportunities to live a healthy life now. We have more sport centres and devices to cook healthy food.

As for me, I don’t do much to keep fit. I just do morning exercises for 15 minutes every day, try to eat regularly small amounts of food 4 or 5 times a day and try to avoid eating sweet things.

As for sport activities popular with teenagers in our region, I believe they prefer athletics. There are many sport clubs where you can do athletics. Our local authorities also hold different athletics competitions quite regularly. Besides, fitness training is also popular among teenagers. Girls like attending non-equipment fitness group classes, boys prefer equipment-based workouts at a gym.

So, I believe healthy life style is popular nowadays thanks to mass media and greater opportunities we have.

10. You are going to give a talk about your school. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         what you like most about your school;

·         what weekday you find the most difficult, and why;

·         what you would like to change in your school life.

I would like to tell you a few words about my school.

There are a lot of things I like about my school. First, I really like my teachers. They are very understanding, helpful and are very good at explaining things. Besides. I like our school canteen. It is very comfortable, looks nice and the food is really tasty.

As for the most difficult day for me, I believe it is Tuesday. We have 7 lessons this day among which there are 4 subjects that require plenty of reading and learning: History, Geography, Chemistry and Literature. And as I don’t have very good memory, it is quite difficult for me to get ready for these subjects. Besides, I have 2 extra classes in Social studies and Maths after lessons. I am getting ready for my school-leaving exams. So I am extremely tired at the end of the day.

Though I like my school very much, there are some things I would like to change. It would be nice to have more parties than we do now. We are too focused on studying and lack entertainment. I believe that too much work and no fun is not very good for students’ health.

So, I am a lucky one as I really like my school, though some things might be improved.

11. You are going to give a talk about the place where you live. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         what your city, town or village is famous for;

·         what your favourite place in your city, town or village is, and why you like it;

·         whether you are going to stay in your city, town or village after leaving school or move to another place, and why.

I would like to tell you a few words about my town.

I live in a small town called Morshansk not far from Tambov. There are a few things my town is famous for. First of all, it is our beautiful Troitsky Cathedral. It is hard to believe, but it is the third largest cathedral in Russia! Besides, we have a very good Historical and art museum rich in paintings of famous artists and unique ancient Russian wooden sculpture.

As for my favourite place in my town, it is our pine-tree forest. It is a very picturesque place. Sometimes It seems to me that it is this forest that you can see on the pictures of the famous Russian painter Shishkin. Besides, the air is so fresh there. I like to go jogging there from spring to autumn and go skiing in winter.

Though I like my town, I am going to move to a larger city after leaving school, because there are few education and job opportunities in it. There are no higher education institutions and the unemployment rate is very high here.

So, I like my town, but I have to leave it after school as I want to get good education and job.

12. You are going to give a talk about foreign languages. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         why lots of people learn foreign languages nowadays;

·         why you have chosen to do the English exam this year;

·         what you did to prepare for your English exam.

I would like to tell you a few words about learning foreign languages.

I think lots of people learn foreign languages nowadays because international relations in all spheres of economy are becoming stronger and stronger. So, companies need specialists of all kinds with the knowledge of foreign languages. That’s why people who want to be successful in their career study languages.

As for me, I have chosen English as my school-leaving exam this year, as it is my favourite subject and I am quite good at it. Besides, I think it is one of the most useful and important subjects in modern world and the knowledge of English will help me to get good education and be successful in my career.

I did my best to prepare for my English exam: read plenty of texts and expanded my vocabulary, watched films in English to improve my listening skills, did grammar exercises. Besides, communicating with my pen friends (writing messages and chatting via Skype) helped me a lot.

So, learning languages is very important in modern world, that is why I have chosen to take an exam in English this year.

13.  You are going to give a talk about pets. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         why people keep pets;

·         what pets are most popular in big cities;

·         whether having pets is a big responsibility, and why.

I would like to tell you a few words about pets.

There are very many reasons why people keep pets at home. First, they help people not to feel lonely. They are very good friends. They give you unconditional love and are always faithful. Pets can improve your mood, they are always there for you if you feel down or depressed. Moreover, some scientists claim that pets can cure different diseases.

I believe that in big cities budgies, fish, hamsters and other small pets that don’t need much space and to be walked out are most popular. I think so because there are fewer places you can walk your pets in large cities and the streets are a very dangerous place for them there. Besides, people have less time for walking with their pets as they spend much time getting to their work and back.

To my mind, having pets is a big responsibility as you must know and do a lot to keep your pet healthy and happy. They cannot take care of themselves and totally depend on you.

So, keeping pets at home has a lo lot benefits, but it is also a great responsibility.

14. You are going to give a talk about the Internet. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         why today’s teenagers use the Internet so much;

·         how the Internet makes long-distance communication easier;

·         what dangers teenagers can face when they use the Internet.

I would like to tell you a few words about the Internet.

I believe today’s teenagers use the Internet so much because it is a perfect tool for getting information and entertaining. It is a combination of different kinds of mass media, means of communication and entertainment sources. You can get news, communicate with friends, read books, watch films, listen to music, play games and even shop on the Internet nowadays.

The Internet makes long-distance communication much easier than it was before its invention. In case of ordinary mail, it took a letter several days or even weeks to reach the addressee. Now, the process takes just a few seconds even if the sender and the addressee are thousands of miles from each other.

There are many dangers, however, teenagers can face on the Internet. First, they can watch video for adults which is not good for their psycho. Second, they can become a victim of cyberbulling and be piled with numerous nasty messages. Besides, they can become a victim of fraud while shopping online.

So, the Internet is very useful, but parents must make sure their children use it in a proper way.

15.You are going to give a talk about photography. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

  • why people like taking pictures

  • why taking photos is more popular today than it was in the past

  • what the best photo you have ever taken is

I would like to tell you a few words about photography.

I believe people like taking pictures because photos help them to remember and keep in their memory forever the most important, happy and beautiful moments they experience in their life.

To my mind, taking photos is more popular today as it has become much easier. We have got digital cameras that have simplified the whole process greatly. There is no film in digital cameras you have to develop. So, it saves money as there is no need to go to the photo lab and pay them to get the pictures. The moment you press the button, the photo is ready and you can see it. So, another plus is if the picture is not OK, you can re-take it.

The best photo I have ever taken is the photo I took while going up on a very high mountain in a special means of transport. We were high up above very tall trees. The view below was really breathtaking! And the photo was wonderful too!

As for me, I like taking pictures very much and always take my camera with me while travelling.

16.You are going to give a talk about holidaysYou will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         what holidays are most popular in your country;

·         what your favourite holiday is and how you celebrate it;

·         if you prefer to give presents or to get presents, and why.

I would like to tell you a few words about holidays.

I believe the most popular holidays in my country are New Year’s Day and Victory day. People like to exchange presents and set off fireworks on New Year’s night. Victory Day is a special day for all the Russians. We feel proud of our grandparents who won victory over German fascists in 1945.

As for me, my favourite holiday is New Year’s day. I usually start celebrating it at home with my family. All our family members usually meet about an hour before the midnight and see the old year off. Then we see the new year in and while the clock on Spasskaya tower chimes twelve we make a wish. After that my friends and I go to the central square to watch a New Year’s show prepared by our local actors with dances, songs, different contests and presents from Father Frost and Snow Maiden. It is usually great fun!

For me giving presents and getting presents are equally pleasant. I love getting presents as I like the feeling of curiosity and expectation you experience while unwrapping them.. And I also like watching people feel happy getting presents from me.

17.You are going to give a talk about the InternetYou will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         why using the Internet is so popular;

·         how the Internet can help students in their studies;

·         whether the Internet can be dangerous, and why.

I would like to tell you a few words about the Internet.

I believe the Internet is so popular nowadays because it is a perfect tool for getting information and entertaining. It is a combination of different kinds of mass media, means of communication and entertainment sources. You can get news, communicate with friends, read books, watch films, listen to music, play games and even shop on the Internet nowadays.

The Internet can help students in their studies very much. It is a wonderful source of information. Most libraries have their own sites on the Internet now. You just type in the title of the book or even the topic you are searching for and have the result almost in no time. Besides, you can follow plenty of educational courses and get the tutor’s assistance on the Internet nowadays.

There are many dangers, however, people can face on the Internet. First, they can become a victim of cyber-bulling and be piled with numerous nasty messages. Second, they can become a victim of fraud while shopping on-line. Besides, some personal or secret information can be stolen from your computer when you use the Internet.

So, the Internet is very useful, but people must make sure they use it in a proper way.

18.

You are going to give a talk about travelling. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         why most people like travelling;

·         which season is the best for travelling in your opinion;

·         what means of transport is the best, and why.

I would like to tell you a few words about travelling. I think most people enjoy travelling because it is a good way to relax and to experience new positive emotions. It gives you an opportunity to communicate with different people and get to know their lifestyles and traditions.

To my mind, the best season for travelling is late spring (if you want to see as many interesting places as possible). It is the time when there is already a lot of vegetation and the trees are in blossom. But at the same time it is not so hat as in summer when travelling is really tiresome. But if the main aim of your travelling is lying somewhere on a seashore, swimming, getting a nice tan and doing nothing, the best season is summer, of course.

I believe, the best means of transport is your own car. It is very convenient. First, you don’t have to wait for your bus or train at the station. It saves your time. Second, you can choose the route yourself to take the most of your trip and enjoy most picturesque places. Besides, you can stop any time you feel tired to stretch your legs after a long sitting or have a bite if you are hungry.

19.You are going to give a talk about your career plans. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

·         what job you want to do in the future;

·         what two subjects you think are the most important for your future job, and why;

·         whether your family approve of your career choice or not.

I would like to tell you a few words about my career plans.

I am really interested in tourism and want to become a tour guide in the future. There are two reasons why I have chosen this job. First, I like travelling and sightseeing. Besides, I am very sociable and enjoy communicating with different people. I think this kind of job gives you such an opportunity.

I think geography and history are the most important subjects for my future job as you have to know much and to tell people about the nature and history of different places, about their customs and traditions and different architectural styles. Besides, it would be also very useful to know foreign languages as there are often a lot of foreigners on excursions.

All the members of my family approve of my choice. First of all, they believe I am the right person for the job as I am good at geography, history and English and very sociable too. Second, tourist business is actively developing and they think it will be easy to find a job.

·
why
a healthy lifestyle is more popular nowadays

·
what
you do to keep fit

·
what
sports activities are popular with teenagers in your region

I’m
going to give a talk about
a healthy lifestyle.

To begin with, I would like to say that a healthy
lifestyle is more popular nowadays because of different reasons. Firstly,
everybody wants
to live a long and healthy life, to look slim. Unfortunately, people suffer
from a lot of diseases at present. Then, environmental problems make people realize the importance of a
healthy lifestyle. As for me, I try to keep fit and follow a healthy lifestyle
too.

First of all, I do my morning exercises
and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables every day. Besides,
I prefer playing footballbasketballvolleyball because it’s my favorite sport.
I’ve been playing football basketballvolleyball for ten years. I enjoy it a
lot.
I also stay away from bad habits, because I’m sure that smoking, drinking
alcohol
ˈælkəhɒl
destroy our body and brains.

I do sports and physical exercises
regularly, because sport makes people strong and healthy, gives pleasure,
develops a strong will, a quick reaction, character
kærəktə, stamina ˈstæmɪnə and keeps people fit. I usually do morning exercises and go
jogging. My favourite sport is swimming and I go to the swimming pool twice a
week. At school we have physical training lessons three times a week. We play
sports games such as football, volleyball and basketball, do various exercises
and take part in sports competitions. In winter I ski and skate while in summer
I like cycling. Moreover, I go to the fitness club and train at the gym.

As for teenagers in my
region, they prefer to play (they are keen on playing) basketball, ice hockey
and volleyball.
Moreover,
more and more young men become interested in martial arts, such as karate
[kəˈrɑːti], boxing, judo [ˈdʒu:dəu] and so on.

In conclusion, I want to say that sport is a very important part of our
life. It makes us healthier.

That’s
all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

2.

·  what
you like most about your school

·  what
weekday you find the most difficult, and why

·  what
you would like to change in your school life

I’m
going to give a talk about my school.

I
would like to start with the idea that school is one of the most important
parts of our lives because we learn how to learn, get first knowledge about the
world.

I
am finishing the 9th form and I’m going to continue my studying in the 10th
form because I like my school. It is old and big. There are about one thousand
pupils. It has a lot a lot of facilities such as an assembly, a library, a
computer room, a canteen, class rooms. Most of all I like a gym because I am
fond of doing sports. There are a lot of sport facilities and modern equipment
in the gym.

As
for weekdays, I find Monday the most difficult one because we have six lessons
on this day, including Maths and Physics. Frankly speaking, I’m not good at
these subjects, and I don’t enjoy these lessons and it is the first day after a
weekend. I am very tired on Monday.

In
my opinion, a lot of things should be changed and improved in my school. I
think, classrooms in our school should be repaired because most of them are
very old. // Personally I would like to change the menu in my school canteen.
The food isn’t tasty there I think

In
conclusion I want to say that my school is the best in my town. That’s all I wanted
to say. Thank you for listening.

·
what your city, town or village is famous for

·
what your favourite place in your city, town or village is, and
why you like it

·
whether you are going to stay in your city, town or village after
leaving school or move to another place, and why

I
am going to give a talk about my native town.

To
begin with, I’d like to say that I live in Buzuluk. It’s the place where I have
been living since my birth. Buzuluk is a small town in Orenburg region. As far
as I know, there are about 80 thousand people in Buzuluk.  It was founded in
1736. At present, it’s 282 years old. By the way, our town is famous for its
Pine Forest which is called Buzuluk Bor. It’s a forest reserve. Moreover, my
native town is the homeland of many well-known people: military leaders, space
pilots, heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia. We are proud of U.Romanenko, V.
Basmanov, A. Marchenko, I.Gnilomedov.

As
for me, I like my town very much, because there are a lot of places where we
can spend our free time. We have got a big swimming pool, an ice palace, some
sports centres, skating rinks and a museum.  But my favourite place in Buzuluk
is an exciting shopping mall. It was built two years ago and it is very popular
among teens. They enjoy hanging out with friends there and watching films at
the cinema.

After
leaving school I am not going to stay in Buzuluk because it  hasn’t got  a wide
range of higher educational oppurtunities. I am going to leave for
SamaraOrenburgMoscow to get a higher education.

 In
conclusion I want to say that Buzuluk is worth visiting.

That’s
all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

4.

·  why
lots of people learn foreign languages nowadays

·  why
you have chosen to do the English exam this year

·  what
you did to prepare for your English exam

I’m
going to give a talk about foreign languages.

Learning
a foreign language is not easy, it t takes much time and effort. People learn
foreign languages for different reasons. Nowadays more and more people travel
around the world. So, it’s necessary to learn foreign languages to communicate
with other people, to understand them and to be understood.

Besides,
knowledge of foreign languages can help to find a well-paid job and gives an
opportunity to study abroad. Some people learn foreign languages just for a
hobby because it improves memory and broaden their minds.

As
far as I know,
English
is the most popular language in the world. As for me, I have been learning
English for 5 years. And this year I have chosen to do the English exam. I am
interested in English and I realize that it will help me in the future.

Of
course, I prepared for my English exam. I learned a lot of new words, read
English books to enrich my vocabulary, listened to different English texts to
improve my listening skills.

All
in all, I can say that learning languages play an important role in our life. It
can be useful both in professional and entertaining spheres. That’s all I
wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

·
why people keep pets

·
what pets are most popular in big cities

·
whether having pets is a big responsibility, and why

I
am going to give a talk about pets.

To
begin with, I’d like to say that nowadays more and more people keep pets at
home (cats, dogs, parrots, hamsters, guinea pigs, and so on.) There are
different reasons why people have pets. I believe that most people keep animals
because they make their lives happier. They say pets give people positive
emotions and can cure different diseases. Besides, some people need friends,
they hate being alone. So, pets help them not to feel lonely, they spend their
free time taking care of them.

In
my opinion, cats, dogs and parrots are the most popular pets in big cities.
Firstly, they don’t need much food and space.  Secondly, most children are fond
of these pets. Nowadays many exotic wild animals are chosen as pets in big
cities too. They maybe monkeys, tigers, crocodiles, lions, snakes and others. I
think, it’s dangerous.

 Anyway,
to have pets is a big responsibility. If you don’t take care of them properly,
they may fall sick and even die. People should always remember to feed pets in
time, walk out and love them.

In
conclusion, I can say that pets play an important part in our life.

That’s
all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

·
why today’s teenagers use the Internet so much

·
how the Internet makes long-distance communication easier

·
what dangers teenagers can face when they use the Internet

So, I’d like to give some words about using
the Internet
. It is an important part of our life and we can’t imagine our
life without the Internet. Today’s teenagers use the Internet so much because
it is a source of information and entertainment. They send e-mails, book
tickets, download music and films. Besides, they can communicate with each
other using social networking sites. They create their profiles on different
social nets such as vkontakte, odnoklassniki, facebook, instagram and others.
Of course, the Internet helps students in their studies too.

I think, the Internet makes long-distance communication
easier. Thanks to special programmes for communication, for example Skype,
people can chat with relatives or friends who live far away or abroad. They can
see and hear a person who they are talking to.

Unfortunately,
teenagers can face some dangers when they use the Internet. (It is not as safe
as we wish it were). There are some criminals who can get your private
information and use in in criminal aims. Secondly, some teenagers get addicted
to the Internet because they spend all their free time playing computer games. Moreover,
theit eyesight gets worse.

In conlcusion I’d like to say that the
Internet has as advantages and disadvantages that’s why people should use it
wisely. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

·  what
holidays are most popular in your country

·  what
your favourite holiday is and how you celebrate it

·  if you
prefer to give presents or to get presents, and why

Well, now I’m going to talk about holidays.

To begin with, holidays play an important part in our life.
Holidays give us an opportunity to rest and relax, they also improve our mood
and make us happier.

Speaking of our country, it has a number of holidays. The
most popular are New Year, the 8th of March (the women’s day), Victory Day, Easter and others. All these holidays are very
important for every citizen of the Russian Federation.

As for me, my favorite holiday is New Year because this is
a special occasion. By the way, we get two weeks
of vacations. I can sit at home all day and watch my favorite TV programs. Or,
for example, play with my friends. Also there are many dishes in that time of
the year. I celebrate that holiday at home with my friends and relatives. At
midnight we
set up fireworks. It is just awesome!

To tell the truth, I like
both giving presents and getting them. Both actions are very enjoying. But
honestly speaking, I like getting presents more because now I don’t have enough
money for giving them.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that every holiday is a
great time, and I wish there were as many holidays as possible. They unite people together.

That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for
listening.

8.

· why
using the Internet is so popular

· how
the Internet can help students in their studies

· whether
the Internet can be dangerous, and why

So, I’d like to give some words about using

long-distance communication easier.

Of course, the Internet helps students in
their studies too. They often use it to do their homework, to make a project or
presentation. They can find any information in no time and they don’t have to
go to a library. Besides, it gives online education opportunities. There are a
lot of educational programmes that can be useful for students.

Unfortunately, teenagers can face some

· why
most people like travelling

· which
season is the best for travelling in your opinion

· what
means of transport is the best, and why

Well, now I’m going to talk about travelling.

To begin with, I’d like to say that
nowadays more and more people travel around the world. No doubt, people like
travelling for different reasons. Firstly, I think that most people like
travelling because it gives them an opportunity to meet new people. Secondly,
travelling is a good way to broaden the mind and gain knowledge. If you go to a
foreign country, you can learn its customs and traditions, see the sights, make
friends with local citizens.

In my opinion, summer is the best season
for travelling because there are many different offerings and discounts in this
time of the year. Most adults are on leave in this period and children have
holidays, that’s why summer is the optimal time when you can start on a
journey.

As
for means of transport, I suppose that buses and cars are the most convenient
means of transport because you can stop if you wish and spend as much time as
you like. It gives you a chance to enjoy the nature outside and you don’t have
to buy tickets.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that
travelling plays an important part in our life and everybody should travel as
much as possible. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

10.

· what
job you want to do in the future

· what
two subjects you think are the most important for your future job, and why

· whether
your family approve of your career choice or not

So,
I’d like to give some words about job in the future.

To
begin with, I’d like to say that almost
all young people today consider making a successful career as the main goal in
life.

 After
finishing the 9th form young people have different opportunities. Many roads are open before them: schools, colleges and
universities. It is not easy to choose a profession out of thousands. Some
pupils follow their parents’ advice, others can’t make any decision and go to
the 10th form.

As for me,
I’d like to have an interesting job and would like it to be connected with
people (art/music). So, I want to get a job of an actress, a singer or an
artist because I’m creative and like to share my ideas with people. I think
that Music and Literature are the most important subjects for my
future
job because they can help to develop my artistic and speaking skills and
broaden my mind.

My
parents have given me advice about my future job. In their opinion, I should be
a doctor because this job is useful and it is in demand. Frankly speaking, my family just want me
to be happy and they support any decision of mine.

In
conclusion, I want to say that future job is important and young people should
think about their future seriously before making any decisions. That’s all I
wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

12.

·  whether
reading is still popular with teenagers, and why, or why not

·  what
kind of books you like reading

·  why
many people prefer e-books to paper books

Now I would like to give a talk about reading.

I think that reading
books isn’t very popular with teenagers these days. Firstly, teens prefer spending
their free time surfing the Net and chatting with friends at social-networking
sites.
Moreover, they
think that reading is a waste of time, especially if they can watch a movie
instead or find necessary information on the Net.

To tell the truth, I don’t understand them because I am
fond of reading. There are different kinds of books: science fiction, detective
books, war books and so on.
As for me, I like reading adventure or science fiction
books. I find them exciting because they have interesting plots. They are worth
reading.

Of course, some people prefer e-books to paper books
because they are more useful and easy to keep.
I
prefer paper books to e-books.

I like feeling the paper of a book and I like
that I can take them anywhere.

In conclusion, I should say everyone should read books because they help us to solve
problems, overcome difficulties and learn something new.
That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for
listening.

13.

·  how
long it takes you to do your homework

·  what
subject you usually start with, and why

·  whether
schoolchildren should be given more or less homework, and why

I’m
going to give a talk about school homework.

While studying at school children have to
do their homework. I think homework is boring but is necessary to do because we
should know rules, practice our oral and written skills. Pupils have different
types of homework: to write a composition, to learn a poem (or a dialogue by
heart), to copy exercises and so on. It takes me 3-or 4 hours to do my home
task. Firstly, I start doing my lessons with the most difficult subjects such
as the Russian or English languages, Maths. At the beginning when you are not
tired, you will do lessons more quickly.

Unfortunately, pupils are given a lot of
work to do, that’s why, I think, school children should be given less homework.
Doing homework takes much time and children don’t have enough free time for their
hobbies and relaxation. They are very tired of their homework. As a result, they
have some problems with their health.

In conclusion, I can say, studying is not
easy. It is a hard job. If you want to have excellent results and be
competitive, you should do the lessons systematically. That’s all I wanted to
say. Thank you for listening.

14.

·  why
most people enjoy travelling

·  what
people like doing while travelling

·  what
place you would like to go to, and why

Well,
now I’m going to talk about travelling.

To begin with, I’d like to say that
nowadays more and more people travel around the world. No doubt, people like
travelling for different reasons. Firstly, I
think that most people like travelling because it gives them an opportunity to
meet new people.
Secondly, travelling is a good way to broaden the mind
and gain knowledge. So people enjoy travelling because it is interesting and
exciting.

In my opinion, most
people like taking pictures while travelling to remember happy moments.
Besides, people like to buy souvenirs, go sightseeing and learn about customs
and traditions of other countries. Of course, some people are fond of lying on
the beaches and go sunbathing, others are keen on windsurfing, sandboarding,
diving and so on.

As
for me, I like travelling too.
I would like to visit London to practice my English and see famous landmarks.
(such as Big Ben, Tower Bridge, The Tower of London)

In conclusion, I’d like to say that
travelling plays an important part in our life and everybody should travel as
much as possible. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

15.

· whether
watching TV is still a popular pastime with teenagers, and why, or why not

· how
many hours a week you watch TV

· what
you dislike most about TV

So, I’d like to give some words about TV.

To begin with, I’d like to say that TV is
one of the greatest inventions of all times. It is impossible to imagine our
life without TV because it is a source of
information and entertainment. I think television is not popular with teenagers
nowadays. Most of them have computers with an internet access. That is why if
they want to watch some shows or movies, they use their computers.

As for me, I watch TV
three or four hours a week. I can’t spend much time watching TV because I am
busy with preparing for my exams, reading books and doing sports. I hate
endless
blocks of
advertisements. I should say that watching TV
much is not safe for our health. Firstly, our eyesight can get worse. Then, TV
makes people lazy, they get addicted to it and have less time for other useful
activities. Moreover, there is much violence and aggression on TV at present.

In conclusion, I think
that watching TV is a good pastime, but parents should pay attention to the
programmes their children watch and how much time they spend in front of TV.
That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for
listening.

16.

·  whether
you have a lot of free time, and why, or why not

·  what
you enjoy doing in your free time

·  what
your Sunday afternoons are like

I
would like to give a talk about free time.

To
begin with, I’d like to say that nowadays teenagers don’t have much free much
free time as they have to study hard at school. I am short of time because I do
my homework every day, revise different rules for exams and attend some extra
classes to pass my exams successfully. Besides, I have to do my household
chores to help my parents.

At
weekends I have some spare time I enjoy watching films, reading books and
listening to music. I find these activities pleasant. Besides, I meet my
friends and we go for walks.

As for me, Sunday is my favorite day of the week.
Firstly, I get up later than usual. Secondly, I have trainings at the gym. Then
I am fond of going to the cinema with my friends.

I
wish I had more spare time. Free time activities make my life exciting. That’s
all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

17.

·  which
of the four seasons you like most, and why

·  how
the Earth’s climate has changed recently

·  whether
you trust the weather forecast, and why

I’m
going to give a talk about weather and seasons.

To
begin with, I’d like to say that there are four seasons in a year but every
seasons has bright and sides (advantages and disadvantages). As for me, my
favorite season is spring because it is the season of hope, happiness and love.
The weather is sunny and warm. It is a wonderful time when nature awakens from
its winter sleep.

As
for the Earth’s climate, I think it has changed a lot. They say the climate has
become warmer. Firstly, summer is hotter nowadays than it was some years ago.
Secondly, we don’t have such cold winters as before people had. So, weather has
become very changeable. Technological progress improves our life, but causes
environmental problems. I don’t trust the weather forecast because they rarely
come true.

 In
conclusion, I should say that the weather has become unpredictable but there is
no bad weather or a bad season. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for
listening.

18.

·  what
public holidays are celebrated in Russia

·  what
your favourite public holiday is, and why you like it

·  how
your favourite public holiday is celebrated in your city, town or village

Now
I am going to give a talk about
public holidays in Russia.

There are many public
holidays in Russia. They are New Year’s Day, Christmas, Women’s Day, May Day,
Victory Day, Day of Russia.

I think the most popular of them is New
Year’s Day because people have a week of holidays and can spend a good time
with their families and friends. As for children they like winter and New
Year’s presents. Another popular public holiday is Victory Day. It’s the most
important day for our country because lots of our people fought in the Second
Word War and defended our Motherland and had a great victory. There are always
parades, meetings and fireworks in all parts of Russia this day.

As for me, my favourite public holiday is
Women’s Day because it’s the first spring holiday. We celebrate it at school
and of course at home. Children make crafts at school and give small gifts to
their mums and grandmothers, men give flowers to their wives. There are lots of
flowers and smiles on that  day.

We always celebrate Women’s Day. At school
we prepare a concert for our teachers. We perform dances and songs, small kids
recite poems. Every class has a party where boys congratulate girls. We usually
have funny contests and competitions this day. I always take part in a school
concert. I’m fond of dancing and my friends and I prepare a dance for our
teachers.

In the conclusion,
I’d like to say that I like holidays. It’s an opportunity to follow our
traditions and have a nice time with relatives and friends.

I’d
like to give a talk about public holidays in Russia.

Russian people have different public
holidays and celebrate them with a lot of food, presents in big companies of
relatives and friends.  They are Constitution Day, New Year’s Day, The
International Women’s Day, May Day, Victory Day and Independence Day.

As for me, my favourite public holiday is
Victory Day. I like this holiday because it is a very important historic
holiday for Russian people we remember those people who passed away. A lot of
people in my town attend a local military parades and watch the fireworks
display at night on this day. Schools usually have concert and performances.

I think, holidays are important because
they connect people and give us a chance to have fun.

That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for
listening.

19.

·  why
people like taking pictures

·  why
taking photos is more popular today than it was in the past

·  what
the best photo you have ever taken is

Well,
I am going to give a talk about photography.

To
begin with, I’d like to say that
people like
taking pictures because
it
helps them to keep happy or important moments in their memory.

In my opinion, taking photos is more popular
today than it was in the past because digital cameras have become cheaper and
more people can buy them.

More than that taking photos has become much easier today because or mobile
phones have cameras. They give us an opportunity to take photos everywhere and
at any time. It has also become easier to share photos with friends in
different social networking sites. You can upload them on your profile and let
everyone see them.

As for me, I like taking photos, too.  Frankly speaking,
I have many good photos, but the best one was taken last year in Sochi. My
friends and I visited Rosa Hutor. When I look at it, I admire wonderful
landscapes and remember a great time we had together with my friends there.

In conclusion, I think that taking photos is a
good hobby.
That’s
all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

20.

·  whether
it is important to wear uniform at school, and why

·  what clothes
you wear to school

·  what
you like most about your school

Now
I’d like to give a talk about school uniform.

Nowadays
some schools have free style uniform while at other schools student wear school
uniform. I think it is important to wear school uniform because it makes a
school atmosphere and help to study hard. Besides, it helps to solve some
problems connected with bullying |ˈbʊliɪŋ|
and discipline |ˈdɪsɪplɪn|.

As
for my school students have to wear school uniform. It consists of black
trousers, a white shirt and a grey waistcoat |ˈweɪs(t)kəʊt|
for boys. (As for girls, they have to wear a white blouse, a checked grey skirt
and a grey waistcoat). I think it is comfortable because I don’t have such
problems as what clothes to wear at school.

I like a gym most of all at my school because I am
fond of doing sports. It is well-equipped and it has got different sport
facilities. We often play basketball, football, volleyball there. To go in for
sport we have to wear a sport uniform.

All in all, school uniform plays an important part in
school life and children should wear it. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you
for listening.
