The smartphone phenomenon has been an area of extensive research recently. As part of my project, I have found a bar diagram that presents some data on what people living in Zetland use their smartphones for. In my essay I will comment on the data and express my opinion on the subject of the project.

The diagram reveals that making phone calls and email access comprise a sizeable proportion of the purposes smartphones are used for (78% and 79% respectively). Two other desirable uses are browsing the Internet (58%) and mobile gaming (48%).

Surprisingly, smartphone shopping is not as widespread as the other smartphone activities the diagram shows. Despite the rise of online shopping and many mobile banking apps which turn a smartphone into a digital wallet, making purchases via a smartphone receives the lowest percentage.

It is worth noting that due to the growing availability of applications and smartphone owners’ temptation to download more apps to their device, a common problem may arise: low or full storage space. The standard solution to improve the memory performance of a smartphone is to delete unneeded downloads and store some in Google Drive.

In conclusion, I am convinced that smartphones play a key role in people’s lives since they have enormous benefits and advanced features. Сonsidering the various uses of smartphones presented in the diagram, it seems reasonable to assume that their computing functions attract people, whatever the problem.

Smartphones have become an integral part of the modern life. People use them for different purposes: sending and receiving email, making pnone calls, surfing the Internet, etc. I have done a project on the use of smartphones and now I am going to comment on the data and give my personal opinion on the subject.

According to the reasearch, sending and receiving electronic letters has a strong lead in using smartphones. Seventy-nine per cent of people consider these devices the best means to be in correspondence with their friends and family. At the same time, making phone calls is ranked number two in the purposes smartphones are used for. Specifically, people speak on the phone in seventy-eight per cent of the cases.

The next top positions are held by surfing the Internet and playing games while differing from each other by ten per cent sharp. In fifty-eight cases people connect to the World Wide Web with their smartphones, and in forty-eight cases they take their above-mentioned devices to start a game.

Cosidering the frequency of using smartphones, sense of sight may take a turn for the worse. To reduce the damage it is highly recommended to buy models with high resolution screen and to make special exercises for the eyes.

In conclusion, I would like to stress the fact that a smartphone is indispensable for everyone because of its functional variety.

Once Mr. Peters was driving in his car at dusk. He entered a straight, empty stretch of road and heard a faint crying, and a struggling and thrashing, as if somebody was in trouble far away in the trees. He left his car and climbed the mossy bank beside the road. Then he saw the gleam of water. Coming closer he found that it was a swan that had become entangled in the thorns growing on the bank of the canal.

The bird struggled all the more frantically as he approached, looking at him with hate in its yellow eyes. Nevertheless he managed to release it from the thorns.

Then the swan floated in to the bank once more and in a moment turned into a little man all in green with golden crown and long beard, standing by the water. He had fierce glittering eyes and looked by no means friendly.

«Well, Sir,» he said threateningly, «You have rescued-by pure good fortune-the King of the Forest from a difficulty, you should have some fabulous reward.»

«I expect three wishes, no more and no less,» answered Mr. Peters, looking at him steadily and with composure. He stood for some minutes reflecting on how he should use his reward. Finally he said:

«My first wish is to have a wife as beautiful as the forest.»

A tremendous quacking and splashing broke out on the surface of the water, and he saw the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, with eyes as blue-green as the canal, hair as dusky as the bushes, and skin as white as the feathers of swans.

«I am your wife”, she said. «My name is Leita.»

Leita made him a good wife. She was gentle and friendly, busied herself about the house garden, polished the bowls, milked the cows and mended his socks. But as time went by Mr. Peters began to feel that she was not happy. She seemed restless, wandered much in the garden, and sometimes when he came back from the fields he would find the house

One evening he was returning home along the river path when he saw Leita in front of him, down by the water. A swan had sailed up to her and she had her arms round its neck. She was weeping, and as he came nearer he saw that tears were rolling, too, from the swan’s eyes.

«Leita, what is it?» he asked, very troubled.

A. Little is known for certain about how guinea pigs were first introduced to Europe and North America as a domestic pet, but they most probably came during the 16th century. Holland, Portugal and Spain had colonies in South America, and the explorers brought to Europe gold and precious gems, along with other unusual and exciting finds. Colourful parrots became very popular status symbols in the homes of the wealthy, and with them came the guinea pig and other animals previously unknown in Europe.

Have you ever thought about cities of the future? Clean streets, flying cars and robots doing all the work? Almost half of the world’s population currently lives in cities, and by 2050 that is predicted to increase to 75%, but what kind of city will they be living in? Today, most city dwellers are dissatisfied because they have to live in overcrowded and polluted surroundings. Traffic jams are getting worse, queues longer, power cuts more common, bad air quality more threatening to human health.
There are various ideas about how a future city should look. Some of these revolve around the idea that better means greener. Experts predict carbon-neutral cities full of electric vehicles and bike-sharing schemes, with air quality so much improved that office workers can actually open their windows for the first time. Visions of a green city often include skyscrapers where living and office space comprises high-rise green-houses and vegetables growing on the roofs. Behind such greenification of cities lies a very pressing need.
Technology companies such as IBM believe that the best cities will become networks. In Rio de Janeiro, for example, IBM has already built an operations centre, which it describes as the “nerve centre” of the city. (отрывок из текста)

The history of radio
Radio started with the discovery of “radio waves”. Radio waves are electromagnetic waves that can transmit music, speech, pictures and other data 26) invisibly through the air.

Tests and test-takers
You don’t have to be a psychologist to guess how students are feeling during a test or an exam. Just by observing their body language you can tell whether they will pass or 32) fail.
Just before the test starts, they will often 33) tell silly things and try nervously to hide their nervousness. A little tension or stress before and during a test is normal. T. Good Morning boys and girls. Glad to see you. The theme of our lesson today is «Gadgets or new technologies in our life. Pros and cons.» You know that wonderful inventions are created in science and technologies. They are changing the lifestyle of millions of people all over the world. Modern inventions are used in everyday life and make it easier. What are gadgets? What are they for? Why does the modern man need them?

        This what are we going to speak about at our lesson.

But first of all let us remember the names of modern inventions that have changed our life. Look at the pictures on the screen. What modern inventions do people use?(слайд 3)

It goes without saying that there are a lot of household appliances which are needed for all of us. What are they used for?
